Ce livre est très intéressant, il apprend beaucoup de choses (et pourtant je ne suis pas ignorante en la matière) tout en restant positif alors que le sort réservé aux animaux de nos jours et plutôt déprimant.
This book is very interesting, it teaches a lot of thing (and I am not ignorant). The book stays positive though the fate of animals nowadays is pretty depressing.

Wonderful 365 Day Guide to Veganism! 23 février 2011
Par Justin - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: Broché
I must start out by saying that Colleen Patrick-Goudreou is one of my favorite vegan authors; her cookbooks "The Vegan Table" and "Color Me Vegan" feature some of my most-used recipes. When I saw her new book, "Vegan's Daily Companion," I immediately snapped it up. I was very excited that Colleen was writing another vegan book that wasn't primarily a cookbook. How did her first non-cookbook venture turn out?

Wonderful! This is a great reference book that you can literally flip open to any page and read a passage or article. It is designed with 365 articles to be one year's worth of daily passages, but I enjoy just reading through the book at my leisure. The articles feature some recipes, rescued animal profiles, veg-friendly literature by the likes of Mark Twain and Roald Dahl, vegan "power" food profiles, and more! There are some lovely pictures of farm animals and food throughout...as well as photos of Colleen herself.

Any cons? Well, it's more of a minor disappointment: about half of the recipes from the book are recycled from Colleen's previous cookbooks. There are, however, some new recipes too for those (like myself) who already own Colleen's cookbooks.

This book has a lot of information for those curious about a vegan lifestyle, as well as long-time vegans. You can use the book throughout the year for daily readings, but it also works lovely as a bathroom companion or coffee table book. Like I said, I love that I can just flip open to any page and find a completely stand-alone article to read.

Highly recommended!

Another wonderful creation by Colleen 23 février 2011

I own all of Colleen's books (in fact, her podcast was the reason I became vegan) and love all of them. They are nice to touch, to look at, to read thru, and try new recipes. I just got this latest book and started reading each entry day by day. I created a routine where I have my morning tea and read an entry from the book, which sets up a nice tone of compassion and creativity for the rest of my day.
I've even tried some of the recipes from the book, which are all delicisios.

I highly recommend this book.

Beautiful and Inspirational 23 février 2011

The thought of giving up meat, eggs and even cheese sounds to many like a life filled with deprivation. Colleen Patrick-Goudreau's latest book proves that this is not the case. The decision to become vegan, to live a life based on compassion, can be one of the most fulfilling decisions a person can make. If you are a long time vegan or someone considering giving it a try, this is a book you will want to take along on your journey.

A Gorgeous, Happy Book 13 août 2011
Par Katrina - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: Broché
I saw this gem in my local Barnes and Noble early this year. I was an omnivore who'd been admittedly intrigued by vegetarianism for most of my life. The pictures of the cover really grabbed me, particularly the photo of a happy looking woman (who I later learned was the author herself) with a gorgeous cow. I thought, "I could never go vegan, but man that way of life looks so peaceful." I didn't buy the book, but every time I'd go to a bookstore, I'd seek it out and peruse the incredible stories and photography. Fast forward a few months -- I was exploring vegan blogs (again, with NO intention to go vegan) and came across a video that sealed the deal for me forever. After I seeing what happened to the animals I was eating, I was done and was now on that happy new path myself. Later in the summer, after discovering and listening to Colleen' vegetarian/vegan podcast called Compassionate Cooks (on itunes) I realized she was the same person who'd authored that beautiful (and I should note very nonjudgmental) book. I finally treated myself and bought the tome, and it's quickly become one of my favorite books in the world. Even if you have no intention to become vegetarian or vegan, this book is an amazing gift to have if you are fond of animals and their amazing ways.

Perfect for new vegans 11 mars 2011

This book got me on Day One. Let me back up. The Vegan's Daily Companion is a collection of 365 essays and recipes, one a day. Day One? Kale! In this entry Patrick-Goudreau describes the nutrition-dense vegetable and offers suggestions on how to use kale. Throughout the year you will find essays and recipes, categorized by day:

Monday: For the Love of Food
Tuesday: Compassionate Communication
Wednesday: Optimum Health for Body, Mind, and Spirit
Thursday: Animals in the Arts: Literature and Film
Friday: Stories of Hope, Rescue, and Transformation
Saturday - Sunday: Healthful Recipes

As someone who has followed a vegan diet for one year and is finding herself more firmly in the ethical vegan camp, it's a terrific book. In short essays Patrick-Goudreau equips a new vegan with how to talk about the vegan diet and lifestyle and shares stories and essays on the non-dietary aspect of veganism -- the animals. As a lover of literature, I'm enjoying the film and literary recommendations. And I love that on the weekend -- when I do most of my cooking -- there are recipes.

I decided the best way to choose a recipe was simply to pick up the book, let it open, and thumb to the next Saturday-Sunday recipe entry. Lucky me! I landed on page 132 and found Nut Butter Dip (A.K.A. Crack Dip).

One bite of this surprisingly spicy and sweet and savory creaminess and you'll understand the addictive nature, too. I have enjoyed it with apples, celery, carrots and crackers.

I highly recommend Vegan's Daily Companion for new vegans. It covers the spectrum of the vegan lifestyle. You get nutrition facts and recipes. And you are also gently, and compassionately, reminded that it really is about the animals.
