Les albums représentés sont : Saxon, Wheels Of Steel, Strong Arm Of The Law, Denim And Leather, The Eagle Has Landed, Power And The Glory, Crusader, Innocence Is No Excuse, Rock The Nations, Destiny.

Great except for one serious flaw... 3 mars 2007
Par S. SMITH - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: CD
Great comp, great sound, great price. All the charting singles are here along with a generous helping of album tracks. However, there is one glaring omission...WHERE THE HECK IS THE TITLE TRACK FROM "DENIM AND LEATHER"? Although not one of their hits, it is surely one of their most beloved anthems. I simply can't believe that it didn't make it on this collection. Other than that, this set is rock solid.

Saxon is a must have for any Metal fan of the 80s. 21 avril 2008

This is some of the greatest Metal that Saxon had to offer. It not only has multiple CD's, but over 40 songs to boot. With the release of a new Saxon album in 2007, this would be a great compliment to anyone wanting great Metal from an amazing Metal band. As a radio DJ with my own Metal show, I bought this to let my listeners enjoy what i have been enjoying from Saxon for years. All the best in one package, you can't go wrong. And it won't break the bank either to buy this set. This would save you alot of cash from having to buy all the past albums if you are on a budget, but even if you aren't I suggest buying all of them along with this set just for fun....

Wow. 14 novembre 2007

I write this review, because I feel guilty. My first experience with Saxon was when the opened for Iron maiden, and absolutely blew them off the stage. This was on the Power and the glory tour, and i thoroughly enjoyed all the material up to that point . . . then, they released Crusader, and it seemeed like the band had totally wussed out. Covering Christopher Cross? Please . . .

So, when I bought the greatest hits Cd, I was expecting two discs of greatness, and one that would rarely grace my CD player. Boy, was I wrong. The first two (early) CDs are predictably great, but the third contains a selection of songs that, for the most part, rock really hard and stack up to Saxon's best early material.

This is an exceptional set of tunes, and very reasonably priced. My only complaints: the omission of their excellent coverr of Sweet's "Set Me Free" and my guilty pleasure of "This Town Rocks" from The Power and the Glory.

Surprisingly Good. Solid Metal. Talented Band. 1 mai 2014
Par Jonathan B. Himes - Publié sur Amazon.com

Saxon was one of those bands I occasionally saw posters for at Hasting's record store in Houston, TX, as a kid. Although I liked their logo and their name, I was afraid it was just another generic rock band, and I never really heard their music growing up. I didn't know anyone who was into them. I have no idea why this group never had the stature of Iron Maiden or Judas Priest; I suspect it has something to do with the 'forbidden fruit' aspect of bands whose albums featured more sinister themes and more of a bad boy mystique.

But Saxon is every bit as talented as those other bands, if not moreso. One thing they lack is controversial, tawdry, or disturbing lyrics and album concepts, which seem to have been a staple of 80s metal bands. I find this refreshing. Instead, Saxon focus on raw rock 'n roll and have more of a motorbike focus as well as plenty of Anglo-Saxon patriotism with crusader and warrior themes. The vocalist sings with conviction, and in some of their later albums reminds me more of Noddy Holder of Slade. The guitarists and drummer deliver impressive solos and flourishes throughout the collection. These songs do participate in the classic metal formula, but the band is clever about using studio and guitar effects to change up the pace. My only complaint is that in some songs, the lyrics (like in several of Dio's songs) tend to simply repeat instead of adding nuances or improvisation on the theme.

I am also impressed that Saxon seemed to have remained true to their own style for most of their career, unlike many other bands who sell out to be more commercial. From what I've heard of more recent offerings from the 90s and 2000s, they only seem to have gotten harder. I especially like the 2007 album "Inner Sanctum." Some vocalists only improve with age. Bill Byford seems to be one of them, as this album and even their 2013 album testify.

The reason I tried Saxon is that while listening to other bands on Youtube like April Wine ("Roller" is a great song), I came across songs like "Need for Speed" and "Princess of the Night" and "Crusader" and "Lionheart." I kept sampling their songs and now I'm hooked. I would say their early 80s era reminds me of the quality (not style) of 80s bands like RATT and Motley Crue's first albums, in terms of that raw buzzing guitar and whopping drum sounds. Saxon is quite sophisticated in their approach to the metal genre, and I would rate their guitarists higher than Judas Priest's in terms of melody and memorable intricacy for solos. This band is heavy, but they have heart without getting sappy. This is a band you can crank up with confidence.

Saxon Knows How To Rock 21 janvier 2009
Par Hoagie Mike - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: CD
This is the ultimate best of collection on the legendary British Heavy Metal band, Saxon. Covering their golden era-the 80's, the band's best tracks are collected here from their first 8 albums. Brilliant remastered sound, great liner notes by Mick Wall, and 52 tracks all on 3 cds. Beware, as there seems to be 2 versions of this out there, one without the essential anthem, "Denim & Leather" and including a live version of "Midnight Rider" instead. I got the one w/ "Denim". Also the price is amazing-I bought mine new at $10.99-not bad for a 3 disc set. Glaring omissions: "This Town Rocks", and the rockin' version of Sweet's "Set Me Free", and I would have left out the horrible, embarassing take on Christopher Cross' "Ride Like The Wind". That aside, this Saxon collection is essential for any true fan of classic heavy metal. Now buy this, turn it up to 11 and ROCK!
