A VERY FRENCH AFFAIR

We've all seen those three little words...je t'aime ...but will this be the case for Margaret?

When Margaret discovers her fiancé is cheating on her, she leaves England in search of a new life and a new dream. Beautiful yet self-effacing, Margaret is determined to put romance out of her life and avoid forming personal ties. On the beautiful south coast of France, Margaret lands herself with a plum job and is happy to forget her worthless old flame. Things are looking up, until a series of events draw her into meeting handsome Frenchman Jean-Paul. Despite her reservations, Margaret begins to let down her guard with inevitable consequence.
Margaret falls deeply in love, but struggles with her conscious after discovering Jean-Paul is married. Despite his declaration of a loveless marriage, should Margaret continue with her new affair? Her old life haunts and scares her…Should she choose a secure, safe life, immersed in her work, or one filled with passion and excitement with the sexy Frenchman? In her darkest hours, can she trust him with her heart?... Has she found a safe haven?
Or is she poised on the brink of the abyss…

Faith Mortimer, well known for her Diana Rivers mystery thriller series, branches out here with a romance set in the South of France. Her lead character, Margaret, is a likable and believable heroine who will have readers engrossed in the joys and pitfalls of what it’s like to be a young woman with the world at her feet. As with all of Faith’s writing the locations are wonderfully described to give that ‘you could be there’ feeling as you read. This is a strong entry into a new genre for this writer and, hopefully, the first of many more romances to come. Highly recommended.

Very silly middle of the road love story, but very short and therefore not boring. I feel more could have been made of the end. This end was rather abrupt.

A Very French Affair is a captivating and heart-wrenching story of love and loss by Faith Mortimer. The author's graceful writing style draws you into this story with lush attention to details of the French locale, making you feel like you are in France with her main character, Margaret Browning.

Margaret is devastated when her fiancé, David, dumps her for another woman who he got pregnant. Looking to make changes in her life, Margaret takes a temporary position at a resort in France. While working, she meets Jean-Paul Boudin and is instantly attracted to him. Jean-Paul is a charismatic man and also a successful businessman. Attracted to Margaret, Jean-Paul pursues her even though he is married. Accepting that Jean-Paul is in a loveless marriage, Margaret begins a heated affair with the man who is the love of her life. Their sexual chemistry is combustible, and their bedroom scenes are steamy hot and filled with passion. I was drawn to this couple for some reason even though I don't support extramarital relationships But, I needed to know how this relationship was going to end.

With beautiful prose, vivid characters, and stunning plot twists, A Very French Affair is an enthralling story that will keep you fully engrossed right up to the dramatic conclusion that will haunt you long after the last word is read.

I received an eBook copy from the author for the purpose of an honest review. I was not compensated for this review, and all conclusions are my own responsibility.

Faith Mortimer is well known for her mystery novels, so this contemporary romance showcases her skills in a slightly different direction.
A perfect setting with St. Tropez as a backdrop, and the author clearly has much knowledge of this area, and all things marine.
Margaret has been dumped by a less than perfect fiance. When an opportunity to work in France is presented by the sailing company she works for, Margaret jumps at the chance of this change of life direction. And change it does, mostly in the form of handsome French businessman, Jean-Paul.
Unfortunately, he is trapped in a loveless marriage and their resultant affair brings with it a good few twists and turns for Margaret, and a surprising, shocking climax.
Good plotting and pacing, combined with a wonderful sense of France and the sailing community.

Fans of Faith Mortimer will know she is a talented mystery writer (the Diana River mysteries), but in this book, she has very ably added another string to her bow. While the glamorous Diana Rivers takes a break from sleuthing, Faith has gone for a romance, and the result is a tender, heartfelt story set in the south of France.

Margaret is restless; her fiancé has dumped her, and she needs a more challenging job than her position in the sailing-holiday company she currently works for, so when her boss offers her short stint in the south of France where she can use her language skills and indulge her love of sailing, she jumps at the chance. Who knows, she might even decide to stay in France...and a very good reason to do so comes in the form of the charismatic Jean-Paul, a successful French businessman. His loveless marriage and penchant for attractive young women draw him to Margaret and an intense, passionate love affair ensues. She believes she has found the man of her dreams. However, she has to decide whether she can live as a mistress of a highly respected man, whose principles are firmly founded on his faith and whether she can sacrifice her desire for something she wants most...

As always, Faith writes a story refreshingly, cleanly, and clearly. Margaret is a likeable heroine: she's not a pushover, she's resolute and...ultimately...selfless. The French coastal setting is evocative and the warm sultry climate and scenery around St Tropez the perfect backdrop for `amour'. Faith paints an idyllic picture with her pen of words and gives the reader a treat with this appealing, compelling romance.

Faith may need to send Diana on a break a little more often!

I loved this book and couldn't put it down. My daughter got slightly concerned when nearing the end I developed a quivering bottom lip and had to reach for the tissues more than once! Well done Faith, can't wait for the next.

Among the magnificent canvas of the south of France and pleasure boating, the author leads us into a sweet love affair. Filled with twists of anxiety and firm principles that leave the main protagonist debating with her own emotions and her future, unexpected reactions leave her heartbroken. But she is determined to move forward, and ultimately makes a remarkable sacrifice that proves the amazing power of love and what kind of heroine she truly is. Highly recommended.
