Présentation de l'éditeur

Blockbuster bestselling author Christina Dodd delivers a novel that will leave readers breathlessly turning the pages in this "stunning work of mystery, danger, and romance."

Twenty-three years ago, in the isolated coastal town of Virtue Falls, Washington, four year old Elizabeth Banner witnessed her mother's brutal murder. Elizabeth's father was convicted of killing Misty and sentenced to prison. Elizabeth grew from a solitary child to a beautiful woman with a cool scientific mind
and an instinctive distrust of love. Now Elizabeth is back in Virtue Falls, a geologist like her father, her life guided by logic and facts. But nothing can help her through the emotional chaos that follows the return of her ex-husband, Garik Jacobsen, an FBI agent on probation and tortured by the guilt of his past deeds. Nor can it help her deal with her father, now stricken with Alzheimer's and haunted by Misty's ghost. When a massive earthquake reveals long-concealed secrets, Elizabeth soon discovers her father is innocent. Is the killer still at large, stalking ever closer to the one witness to Misty's murder? To Elizabeth herself? Elizabeth and Garik investigate, stirring old dark and deadly resentments that could provoke another bloody murder-- Elizabeth's own.

VIRTUE FALLS is the w
inner of the coveted RT Book Reviews Award.

In 2014, Christina is publishing the Lost Hearts series in e-book, all enhanced with extra material:
-- JUST THE WAY YOU ARE
-- ALMOST LIKE BEING IN LOVE
-- CLOSE TO YOU
And Christina's all-new series, Virtue Falls, starts with:
-- THE LISTENER: A Virtue Falls e-Short Story (July 1)
-- VIRTUE FALLS: A Full-Length Suspense (Sept 9)

Readers become writers, and Christina Dodd has always been a reader. She reads everything, but because she loves humor, she likes romance best. A woman wants things like world peace, a clean house, and a deep and meaningful relationship based on mutual understanding and love. A man wants things like a Craftsman router with attachments, undisputed control of the TV remote, and a red Corvette which will miraculously make his bald spot disappear. When Christina's first daughter was born, she told her husband she was going to quit work and write a book. It was a good time to start a new career, because how much trouble could one little infant be?

Ha! It took ten years, two children and three completed manuscripts before her first novel, CANDLE IN THE WINDOW, was published to great acclaim. In the years since, she has enjoyed writing witty, emotional novels for every reader: suspense, historical romances, paranormal romances, romantic suspense. Her stories have been translated into 25 languages, won the prestigious Golden Heart and RITA Awards and been called the year's best by Library Journal. Christina Dodd herself has been a clue in the Los Angeles Times crossword puzzle (11/18/05, # 13 Down: Romance Novelist named Christina.) Publishers Weekly praises her style that 'showcases Dodd's easy, addictive charm and steamy storytelling.' With more than fifteen million of her books in print, her legions of fans always know that when they pick up a Christina Dodd book, they know they've found a story "For the wild at heart!"

Christina Dodd is married to a man with all his hair and no Corvette, but many Craftsman tools.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Natural disasters and second chances! 9 septembre 2014
Par Pat Fordyce - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format:Format Kindle
This novel by Christina Dodd is overflowing with wonderful characters, exciting details and murder and mayhem. I loved it!

The story starts with a murder that I at first questioned it's connection to the story. But, eventually it becomes a very important clue.
Virtue Falls is a small town on the Washington coast, usually crowded with tourists. Ms. Dodd introduces some of the landmarks and colorful characters. Elizabeth Banner is a geologist widely known, unfortunately, for her family history. Her father, Charles, a renowned scientist, was convicted of murdering and mutilating her mother Misty, with a pair of scissors while Elizabeth, then age four, was in the house. She was severely traumatized and did not speak for over a year. That episode is locked away somewhere in her mind and she doesn't remember details at all. After twenty-three years, suffering from repeated abuse and beatings in prison, Charles has been released to a care facility in Virtue Falls, suffering from Alzheimer's. Elizabeth is back in Virtue Falls to try and reconnect somehow, if possible, with her Dad and study an area rich with geological finds. She hasn't been back since the murder.

Garik Jacobsen, Elizabeth's ex-husband is a FBI agent on disciplinary leave. He is despondent about what happened to put him on leave, trying to understand what he didi wrong with his marriage and close to ending his life in despair.

In the middle of an ordinary day, the ground starts rolling, and an earthquake reading an 8 on the Richter Scale rocks this small town. Devastation is everywhere, but Elizabeth rushes without concern for her own safety to the cliff to watch for the inevitable Tsunami. She is able to video it and knows this is a once in a lifetime happening. Virtue Falls is without power, water, or food and the after shocks are tearing down what little is left. Garik races from Las Vegas to be with Elizabeth and they are staying at the Virtue Falls Resort, owned by his foster mom.

Beware, once you start this novel, it's difficult to put down! You learn a lot about earthquake/tsunamis, meet a lot of people who might have murderous intentions and enjoy a very sexy second chance romance. It's very hard to put into words the impact of this story. I can only recommend you read and enjoy it.

I received this eBook from the publisher and NetGalley for an honest review.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 I recommend buying THE LISTENER 9 septembre 2014
Par TheReadingAddict - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format:Format Kindle
First, let me mention Christina Dodd’s short story introduction to VIRTUE FALLS titled THE LISTENER, where the unique citizens and tourists are welcomed at the Oceanview Café to eat, greet and gossip. I recommend buying THE LISTENER, (for a minimal price), as its subtle amazing story gives a glimpse into the wide variety of personalities, faults, and issues the reader encounters in VIRTUE FALLS.
VIRTUE FALLS starts with a story of horror in San Francisco, seemingly unconnected to the town two states away. Christina Dodd then proceeds from the Oceanview Café again, weaving a tapestry of characters in time, location, and personality so the reader has an idea of where everyone is before everything goes BOOM. Literally. I was reminded a bit of Dame Agatha by this.
I absolutely loved the steady abundance of crisis this story unfolded. In spite of the length of this book, there were very few moments of ease. Think Peyton Place meets The Poseidon Adventure meets Ted Bundy all in one place.
The format of the story, highlighting different characters and scenes instead of linear narration, kept my attention unlike many books I’ve read that bounce from place to place. This a major difference from Christina Dodd’s previous books.
Also unusual, the characters were ‘normal’ everyday people with ordinary every day jobs. No rich guys falling for poor independent damsels. No shifters, vampires, or fictionally factual things that go bump in the night. Yet--there were flashes of things beyond earthly understanding.
Though the main characters were overly beautiful/tall/handsome, they had issues all of us can identify with. The sex wasn’t other-worldly or kinky, it just reflected the passion between people who couldn’t make it the first time around.
There were no supernatural conspiracies threatening the world, as in many of Christina’s books, but real monsters all people on the west coast of the U.S. have in their closets and under their beds--earthquakes and tsunamis. Oh, with a dose or two of murder and mayhem to tie it all together.
I must say I was surprised at the lengthy romance part of the story as VIRTUE FALLS was touted as more straight suspense instead of romantic/suspense. Don’t get me wrong, I loved the heat, the chemistry, and the word crafting, but the troubling issues this couple had were overshadowed and too easily surmounted by chemistry to fit in with the tone of the suspense. And since the length of this book allowed far more character development than usual, their issues could have had more emphasis and better balance.
The lengthy descriptions gave me time to remember and care about the multitude of people introduced into the story, and are prevalent throughout. And at first I felt they could be tighter and less rambling. But after reading this book for the third time, I realized Christina Dodd was subtly weaving again, making connections without hitting the reader over the head.
These long descriptions also made me wonder which of these characters’ stories would be the focus of future adventures in Virtue Falls. Can Christina Dodd continue to keep this amazing amount of action and chaos going, or will future books be disappointingly shorter. Will she keep the balance of reality with a hint of the beyond without the supernatural overwhelming the suspense?
And the one thing that has been on my mind since reading THE LISTENER; whatever happened to Cornelia? She wasn’t in her regular place at the Oceanview Café. Will she be included in future VIRTUE FALLS sagas? I’ll be waiting on pins and needles to find out, and to see if the end of this book is the lead into the next. I hope so!

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Virtue Falls ROCKED! 9 septembre 2014

From the moment I picked up the book I was hooked! This wild ride lasted until the very last page! I honestly couldn’t put it down. I just kept telling myself “one more page” over and over.

After an Earthquake rocks Virtue Falls, Geologist Elizabeth Banner stumbles upon a mystery that will shake her to her very core. Because Elizabeth Banner always believed her father murdered her mother 22 years ago. But nothing is as it seems.

Christina Dodd has a true gift in her ability to make her characters come to life. Every time I read one of her books I get drawn in. I honestly feel like I know these characters and can feel their fears and desires.

This book is kept me GLUED to my couch! Every time I thought I had it figured out – I was blindsided! I love that a book can keep your attention from start to finish. Great Job Ms. Dodd! I can’t wait to see what you come up with next!!!

3.0 étoiles sur 5 Good story- weak ending 13 septembre 2014

this book had all the makings of a great Christina Dodd novel. A Great main character, deep developed background story, and an intense mystery. About halfway through I realized this was not going to be a great novel. All side characters were barely developed, but she wrote about them like we should care. Without giving too much away- the last quarter of the story set up some great sideline events and then in Dodd's rush get to the end she ignored them and pretended they didn't happen- who killed themselves, who was tied to a bed and being held hostage... among others. It was so close to being good, I wanted to love it, instead I ended reading it frustrated or not caring about the main love story. I love Christina Dodd, and I'll continue to read them- but this book was, in a word, disappointing.

I love Christina Dodd and her books are always interesting and fast paced. This book however dragged terribly for me. I couldn't really get into the story because it jumped around to so many POVs that I never really felt invested. I hope that others will like this book but I did not. It took 90 some chapters in audio version to finally get to the pinnacle of the story and the chapters leading up to that I felt didn't do it justice.
