Présentation de l'éditeur

What could be worse than someone hacking your pacemaker?
Your pacemaker hacking your DNA...
In a not so distant future, cybernetic implants are cheap and more commonplace than smart phones and smart watches.
This is a world where flesh and metal combine to create endless new possibilities.
Most people embraced this new technology, but there are those who would stop at nothing to rid the world of this so called evil.
Then a virus is born that can spread from implant to flesh and Ex-Special Forces Operative, Xavier Segrave, finds himself fighting for his very soul. He is slowly turning into a monster while he is pursued by a cop that will stop at nothing to find the truth...

This novella is filled with high energy. While you could put it down and take a break, the chances of that are pretty slim. I read the entire novella in a single sitting.

Van Wyk has a talent for high pacing. He doesn't mince words, providing just enough information to paint a full picture that drives the reader to continue at all costs. While this would feel exhausting in a longer work, the technique is exactly what is needed for a novella.

Even the end was written in this action-packed manner (Don't worry... no spoilers here). It ended on an especially exciting note, leaving me hungry for more.

Right from the start "Virus: Episode 1" caught my attention and kept upping the ante as the story unfolded, exploring the possibilities of a future where a person's DNA can be warped with the equivalent of a computer virus... sending Xavier Segrave on an unexpected journey of self-discovery, intrigue, danger, destruction and revelation. The novel is wonderfully written with a suspenseful and exciting tone, drawing readers into a world that mixes technology with humanity and warping what we know about ourselves and our humanity.

Jac Van Wyk does an excellent job of creating a vivid and multi-layered world, adding intricacies to this possible human future that bring the story to life. Using vivid imagery, strong dialogue that propels the plot along and relatable characters, this was a fantastically imaginative science fiction novel that sparked with originality and complexity. It was well worth the read.

The description for this book intrigued me and to say this was a chilling read is an understatement.
If you like fast paced suspense, do not pass by this book.
With technology advancing so quickly it was not a big stretch of the mind to read this story and think “what if”.
The story was well written and kept me on the edge of my seat. I liked Xavier, I thought the author did a great job with the characters and the overall interaction.
Due to Krystyna’s actions near the end of the story, I had to force myself to not skip ahead to see what happened.
There are some graphic (and sometimes grisly) things that occur. The author paints a rather detailed (and kind of gory) image but it fit in well with building the suspense and was a crucial piece of info.
The story ends with some loose ends and I look forward to finding out what happens next.
Very good read and I definitely recommend it.
