Présentation de l'éditeur

Find your voice, and communicate with confidence

Ever wondered why nobody hears you in meetings, or wished people would take you more seriously? Or maybe you're unhappy with your accent, or you feel insecure about your high-pitched or monotonous voice? Voice and Speaking Skills For Dummies will help you to discover the power of your voice, understand how it works, and use your voice like a professional whether in meetings, addressing an audience, or standing in front of a classroom. Take a deep breath, relax those vocal cords, and make your speech sparkle!

We're not all planning to become politicians, or likely to address large audiences on a regular basis, but we all need to be able to communicate well to achieve success. Certain professions require a high level of vocal confidence, notably teachers and business leaders. As well as using body language effectively, we also rely on our voice to convey passion, exude enthusiasm, and command attention--and that's before we've considered the content of our words! A clear understanding of how your voice works, how to maximize its effectiveness, and ways to overcome voice 'gremlins' such as speaking too fast, stuttering, or sounding childish, is pivotal to enabling you to succeed, whatever the situation.

  • Highlights the importance of your voice, explains how to use it effectively
  • Gives you confidence in public speaking
  • Helps you use your voice to make a great first impression in all aspects of your life
  • Includes a CD with vocal exercises to help you communicate with confidence.

Whether you're looking to improve your speaking skills for work or personal gain--or both--Voice and Speaking Skills For Dummies gives you everything you need to find your voice and communicate with confidence.

Note: CD and other supplementary materials are not included as part of the e-book file, but are available for download after purchase.

I NEVER write bad reviews, but I have no choice.

First of all, this book doesn't even start until about page 40. The first 40 pages of this book consist of the author talking about absolutely nothing. It's just a bunch of fluff that has nothing to do with improving your speaking skills.

After page 40, the book actually begins...sort of. For every useful suggestion the author gives, it's followed by 3 or 4 pages of fluff! I hate books like this. That awkward moment when you've been reading for 46 minutes, and you're still waiting for the book to start. That's very frustrating. I wish the author would just get to the point and stop padding the book.

Also this book is not for dummies. You might have to pull out a dictionary to follow along with some of her sentences. She uses complex words that aren't necessary to get her point across.

It's almost as if the author was trying to impress me with her vocabulary. If this book is for "Dummies" then it should't have a readability score best understood by university graduates. Complex words are supposed to be replaced with easily understood words.

Even after all this, I still kept trying to read the book because I had faith in this author. The deal breaker for me was her writing style.

The author writes very long sentences that are so long, in fact, that by the time you get to the end of her sentence you're left scratching your head because you have no idea what she's saying because you cant even remember what she said when the sentence first begin, like this annoying sentence you're reading right now.

Her sentences are punctuated correctly, but they're just too long. When a sentence is too long, then you have to keep re-reading the sentence to get the point. So that's more time wasted on top of a book that's already padded with fluff. That's why I'm so frustrated with this book.

I threw the book in the trash can. I didn't want to sell it back to Amazon because somebody might purchase it "used" and get tortured like I did.

I'm sure the author is very knowledgeable in her field, but yea.....I need to buy another book now.

I'm sure this book might have some golden nuggets if you can manage to finish it. I couldn't get past page 100.

3.0 étoiles sur 5 Terribly British 22 février 2013

I would have loved this if it had used American quotations and pronunciations, and if the CD were spoken in American English. Unfortunately, it is terribly British, can get annoying, and loses some of its value.
