HASH(0x9cb7cc6c) étoiles sur 5 Great music...but save a bundle with the 5-disc set! 21 août 2002
Par Un client - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: CD
This CD is great. It has both old and new Disney classics. But...for a little more money you can get all these songs and about 80 more. The 5 disc set sold here at Amazon has 99 Disney classics and sells for about the price of 2 CDs. The 5 disc set includes songs such as Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah from the no-longer released Song of the South, songs from the theme parks like the Electric Light Parade theme, It's a Small World from the NY World's Fair...it has them all! Buying the CDs seperately you probably spend twice as much + shipping; save some money--the 5-CD set is the way to go.

The previous two volumes of this series, chosen by Leonard Maltin and graced by his excellent liner notes, were enough draw to make me buy this one "for my son." Unfortunately, Maltin wasn't involved in this one, and it shows.
I am glad I have it - if only to keep from buying the full soundtracks of all these movies just to get a clean copy of Pat Carroll singing "Poor Unfortunate Souls" (Little Mermaid) or "Everybody Wants to Be a Cat" (Aristocats) or Elfman's fabulous "What's This?" (Nightmare Before Christmas).
I suspect most folks will do what I did, and buy the CD because a few of the tunes still resonate - and there's plenty of power here for that. The "Siamese Cat Song" certainly isn't great art, but it transports me back to child state - where I feel I'm listening to my scratchy old 45 - quicker than you can say "Fess Parker."
I appreciate that the compiler - Ted Kryczko - stuck with Maltin's winning formula of old and new. But his sense of drama and pacing aren't the best. Yes, the Jonatha Brooke and Sarah MacLachlan cuts - featured one and two on the set - are pretty and sweet. I'm sure it's frustrating that these great cuts didn't get heard enough, because the movies were weak. You still don't start with them. Lead with your strengths.
Oh yes, the 6-year-old does appreciate it, but prefers volumes 1 and 2. (Nearly forgot my cover, there.)

HASH(0x9c9a46c0) étoiles sur 5 Not my favorite of Disney's greatest... 26 août 2005

Ok OK I know its Disney and allthough I praised the first two Disneys Greatest I didn't like this Cd as much. It seems that they have taken all the leftover Disney songs and put them on this CD. My daughter loves this CD no matter what and I guess if it makes her happy so am I.

In all I found only 5 songs worthy to be on Disney's greatest CD while the others are b- class.

I am sure that hard core Disney collectors don't want this CD missing from their collection but I recommend to rent the CD first to see if its worth your money.

Our home was always filled with children's music during the 7 years I spent babysitting, but I'll have to admit there were occasions where I thought I might lose my mind if I listened to "Wheels on the Bus" one more time. This CD was always a nice change of pace with some of the terrific tunes from the old Disney flicks! The "Disney's Greatest" Volume 1, 2 & 3 (better known in my home as the "blue/green/red Disneys") were a welcomed addition to the background music when I had the opportunity to watch my three grandson's until my daughter-in-law became a full-time mom earlier this year. Not only did they bring back such terrific memories for me (along with a newfound appreciation for the beautiful combination of music and lyrics), but introducing the grandkids to these songs for the first time has been an absolute treat!

A really nice selection can be found on the CD, including music from 1933's The Three Little Pigs (my gosh, their GREAT grandparents hadn't even been born yet!), the '40s (1940's Pinocchio and 1941's Dumbo), the '50s (1955's Lady and the Tramp, along with the Alma Mater song from The Mickey Mouse Club), the '60s (Disneyland's 1963 The Enchanted Tiki Room, 1964's Mary Poppins and Disneyland's 1967 Pirates of the Caribbean), 1970's Aristocats, the '80s (1981's The Fox and the Hound and a couple of tunes from 1989's The Little Mermaid), the '90s (1991's Beauty and the Beast, 1993's The Nightmare Before Christmas, 1994's The Lion King, 1995's Rhythm of the Pridelands, 1996's The Hunchback of Notre Dame, 1999's Toy Story 2 and The Tigger Movie), right on through 2002's Return to Neverland. If you give them a listen, I bet you'll be glad to have them as part of your repertoire, even if you're a newly minted mom or dad who doesn't recall some of the songs from your own childhood.

Our grandsons' favorites on this CD were "What's This?", "Gaston", and - believe it or not, one of the favorites from my OWN childhood, "A Spoonful of Sugar"! (I'm not sure how much enthusiam today's pediatricians would have about giving a child a spoonful of sugar to "help the medicine go down", but back in my day we didn't have cherry or grape flavored medicine so, as a kid, I always thought it was an excellent idea!) It's great to see them enjoying some of the songs not only their dad and uncle knew as kids, but my husband and I and our OWN parents! Would love to see Disney release another a Volume 4 in this CD series, considering all of the Disney movies that've come out since 2002!

If you want this album it's because you already know the songs from Disney's long legacy of having excellent original music in their movies. In other words you're looking at this because you already like it. The booklet enclosed with the disk is very detailed about who composed the music, who wrote the lyrics, who performed the singing and played the music, what movie the songs were attached to, etc...

The recording transfer is excellent, no clicks or pops from bad re-recording (and many of the songs in this trilogy of albums were recorded a very long time ago where technology is concerned).

If you only want one or two tracks, consider the digital download, if the other tracks are "nice to have" but not absolutely necessary evaluate based on cost, if you want five or more of the tracks buy the disk.

I bought all three of these disk for my daughters Tinker Bell music player Christmas 2009, I haven't regretted it.
