Présentation de l'éditeur

After seven years, a psychopath starts killing again. He is mutilating women, and hanging them upside down in abandoned buildings with a meat hook through their ankles. Pinned to their breasts are messages in ancient languages. Parish and Richards begin their investigation, but Chief Inspector Trevor Naylor wants revenge on Parish, and the killer wants Mary Richards. Richards must also cope with the pressure of her impending National Investigator's Examination, Parish finding out that she snores, and the lack of men in her life. The investigation leads to a gripping conclusion, which involves DI Ray Kowalski and his partner, Chief Superintendent Walter Day, and Angela Richards. The Head of Forensics, Paul Toadstone, also becomes a hero.

3.0 étoiles sur 5 Somewhat readable, but repetitive 6 novembre 2011

I enjoyed the 1st book in this series, as it was well-written and the dialogue between the detective and his constable was witty. This 2nd book is still well-written, but the writer is repeating the same dialogue as previously used. How many times do I want to read that the detective likes 'coffee with four sugars' and the constable calling the detective "mean"? Also, the relationship between the constable's mother and the detective is bordering on unprofessional and the details of their sex life is are totally unnecessary. I don't plan to read the 3rd book in the series.

I read books 1 - 3 of the Parish & Richards series back-to-back. Therefore, the reviews are being posted all at one time.

In "Wages of Sin" DI (Detective Inspector) Parish and his trainee, Richards, are once again on the case of a serial killer who targets "sinful" women. After a seven year hiatus, a psychopath starts killing again. He is mutilating women, and hanging them upside down in abandoned buildings with a meat hook through their ankles. Pinned to their breasts are messages in ancient languages.

As Parish and Richards begin their investigation, the disgraced Chief Inspector (CI) Trevor Naylor seeks to destroy Parish, while the killer has decided Mary Richards will make the perfect mother for his children. However, Ruben has a problem. He's impotent because of his diabetes and it sends him into a killing rage. When Ruben kidnaps Mary, the clock starts ticking, Parish has hours to save her. Unfortunately, Parish, is unconscious in the hospital due to Naylor's murderous actions. Sorry, can't say more without spoilers.

Love the murder mysteries and this one is no exception. For so long I was stuck on 2 authors only, but now have found another one to add to my growing list. I bought this second book not realizing it was a series of 3 and after reading it I have since bought the third. The storyline was intense and the relationships between the characters kept me not wanting to put the book down.

I found this book and it's predecessor while searching for British police procedural novels and was somewhat disappointed with it from that standpoint. These are not the classic procedural novels that I was used to but Mr. Ellis has written novels that are amusing and interesting with plenty of twists and turns. Just as I would be ready to lay the book down I would come across another incident that would make me keep reading and losing another 30 or 45 minutes of sleep. I find it difficult to give a book a 5 star rating as many seem to do with ease. The book must be very exceptional in my opinion to get such a rating and few are. Having said that I would feel comfortable giving this book a 4 star rating if not for one thing. Please, please Mr. Ellis, drop the "Sirr" and "You are so mean" and let Richards grow up a bit. It is amazing how such small things can detract from an otherwise excellent read. I found myself dreading the next instance of either or both of the sayings and cringing when I came upon them. I will read additional books by this author and will recommend this series of books to others and try to overlook the "sirrs and means" if I come upon them in future books. Perhaps it is just me.

I enjoyed The Wages Of Sin very much. It was like three of my favorite authors rolled into one: Ann Perry, Elizabeth George, and Johnathon Kellerman. Unlike Ann Perry who always ended her books too abruptly for me, this one come to an exciting climax and lets you know what happens to everyone after the murder is solved. The pace is just right, Elizabeth George's books drag in places sometimes. The psychological profiling of Gabriel is as good as anything I have seen in Johnathan Kellerman's books.

The only reason I gave it a four instead of a five star is because of the broken record of: "Sir, you're so mean." and "Get me a coffee with four sugars." I intend to read more by this author. He has become one of my favorites. I'm sure his characters will grow along with him. Good job Tim!!!
