4.0 étoiles sur 5 Great concept in need of better editing. 30 décembre 2012

The idea of making learning a new language something the whole family can enjoy is a great one, which is what attracted me to this book. The author breaks everything down into simple, bite-sized lessons that work perfectly in a no-pressure environment. She also includes some interesting stories about French culture, as well as ideas for fun activities and links for further study.

The sole reason I couldn't give this book 5 stars is in the execution. This book desperately needed a better editor. The French is occasionally sloppy, at one point confusing formal with familiar phrasing, and the pronunciation guides can be hit or miss, sometimes contradicting themselves. There was at least one grammatical error in English, as well. Nitpicky stuff, but you'd expect better from a language book.

I'll definitely be using this with my family, but am glad I know enough French to be able to compensate for when the author gets it wrong.

When you think of France you think, food, art and romance. To me the French language is delicate and something to take very seriously. I wanted to learn French but wanted to find a book that made it less of a chore and more like a game. I stumbled across 52 Weeks of Family French by Eileen Mc Aree - I could tell from the cover this book would be fun!

I immediately dove in to practicing the words/common phrases and found her explanations of the male and female speaker's pronunciation to be very helpful! Even those of us adults who do not have children will find this starter's book a great source! I practiced the phrases daily, read/followed the author's tips and tricks and feel very confident in the progress I've made!

If you're looking for a true beginner's book download 52 Weeks of Family French and start right away. Bonne chance!

Without sounding too much like I'm bragging, I will admit that they already speak three languages. I know English, of course, as well as Dutch and Spanish. When I lived in Belgium for seven years I learned Dutch completely by ear which I don't recommend to anyone. When I moved to Peru I learned on my own again but this time with a Spanish course that I purchased online which consisted of 1 book.

When my son started taking French last year I decided that I would study along with him and I looked online for a book that would help us both. What I found was 52 Weeks of Family French and I can tell you that, in all seriousness, it's an excellent book that anyone, teenager or adult, can use to pick up the basics of French and do it in a fun and interesting way.

The book is laid out in a very easy-to-follow way and gives the reader just enough to study every week to keep things entertaining but not overwhelming. It's not the end-all and be-all to learning French, by any means, but for someone who wants to pick up some basic French it's practically perfect. And after a year with this book I believe that anyone, no matter how many languages that they know, will be able to have a firm grasp of basic French and be able to hold a basic conversation in this wonderful language.

If I could say one thing about this book it would be that, after using it for the last few weeks with my son, both of us have a solid understanding of the French language and we have fun on a daily basis talking to each other in French. If that isn't enough to convince you to buy this excellent book on learning French, nothing will be. Highly recommended.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Good book for anyone wanting to learn French 4 janvier 2014

I really enjoyed this book. Being bilingual I know just how hard it is to learn a new language especially later in life. This book makes learning French easy and attainable. The author takes a different approach then most language learning books in that she breaks down the learning into small lessons and the importance of using the language regularly. This is a proven method used by most language learning taught in schools. What I like most about this book is the inclusion of learning as a family or with getting your kids involved. The fact that children can pick up foreign languages easily and quicker than adults is a proven fact. An the author hit the nail on the head in the fact that when learning something with your kids you will be able to get past some of the things that trip up most adult language learners. This book makes learning French easy and enjoyable. This book is also sprinkled throughout with little facts about French culture that not only relates to what you are learning but also keeps you interested. This book is really designed to get you and your family to speak french quickly and easily. The only draw back is that this wasn't around when I had young kids and was trying to learn Italian. I would recommend this to anyone who wanted to learn French whether they had children or not.
