Présentation de l'éditeur

From USA Today bestselling author Michael James Ploof

Every so often, an epic adventure emerges that makes the blood surge, the spine tingle, and the heart smile page after exhilarating page. Such is Whill of Agora, Michael James Ploof’s action-packed fantasy that visits strange new lands as it unveils how one exceptional young man named Whill makes full use of fierce wits, superior skills, and relentless will to help defend the land of Agora from the monstrous Draggard. With plenty of drama and action packed battle scenes, Whill of Agora will enthrall anyone on the quest for great adventure, good times, and an infectiously optimistic outlook on even the darkest and most dangerous of days.

It is the year 5170 in the land Agora, where humans, dwarves, and elves have existed in peace for centuries. Now, however, the human King Addakon has invaded and waged war on neighboring Isladon. The once peaceful Kingdoms of Agora are on the brink of continental war. The Dark Elf Eadon, and his army of Dragon-Elf crossbreeds, the Draggard, threaten to conquer all kingdoms.

Enter young Whill, a nineteen-year-old ranger with battle savvy and untapped abilities. Having spent years roaming Agora and training with his mentor Abram, Whill has become a bright intellectual and a master of combat. What he seeks most, however, is the identity of his birth parents. Instead, he finds a tumultuous terrain and a prophecy placing him in the center of the struggle.

Along the way, Whill encounters an equally inspired group of companions that are matched in skill and mission. These include Rhunis the Dragon Slayer, the young Tarren, the fearless Dwarf Roakore, the beguiling warrior Elf Avriel, and the powerful Zerafin. As Whill joins forces, he forges bonds far mightier than their escalating travails. With high adventure and fierce friendship, Whill of Agora will capture your imagination and grip your heart during every super-charged escapade that Agora’s bold and grinning brotherhood embraces.

Whill of Agora features a complete map of Agora so that you can easily maneuver through the wilds and bustling cities alike. Click the "Look inside" feature to view map.

With its rich history, 'page turner' pacing, unique magic system and majestic lands, the first book in the Whill of Agora series immerses the reader in a beautiful and believable world wrought with danger, war, manipulation, and mayhem.

This book is a light, but entertaining, read. It is probably more of a YA story. I thought it struggled a bit with appropriate time lines and character power differentials. It also gets a little wordy with some of its descriptions. "Whill of Agora" has a good (if well used) premise. The author incorporates enough action to keep the story interesting. For the price it is worth the read.

1.0 étoiles sur 5 Horrible with no character definition and/or challenge to main character 14 janvier 2014

One of the other reviews stated it was Too sweet. That is a little to generous for this work. I tried.. I really really tried to get into this book, but it was horrible from the start.

First, the main character Whill is never clearly defined and I couldn't care less about him.
The initial tone in the book is that you should feel sorry for him since he is an orphan/ never met his parents.
However, you quickly see that he has everyone's respect (for no apparent reason), is able to defeat everyone he battles (without ever having trained in battle).

I think the book actually reads like the author was day dreaming and then threw the ideas down on paper. Whenever he wrote himself into a corner, he would just go with Whill is so awesome, this doesn't matter.

Anyway, I hope that this review has come in useful, but don't waste your money on this book

This is yet another YA fantasy written to an overused formula: boy (Whill) has a mysterious background and is accompanied in his (initially pointless) travels by a wise older person, boy has some sort of undefined destiny, boy discovers he has untrained magical power and discovers he is an uncrowned king. Great evil stands in his way, but we all know he will overcome. Dwarfs, elves and other characters abound. Whill is unbelievably good at everything he does and is too good in the moral sense, and his adolescent love interest is indescribably beautiful.
The story is not badly written but the characters are shallow, sometimes stupid, and lack any dimensionality beyond being very good or very bad. Where are the mistakes made for which a price must be paid? Where is the confusion and uncertainty that any young man feels? Where are the unpredictable events and detours in the storyline?
I was unable to identify with the story and will not bother with the next in the series.

I read another review before i bought the book that said the 'good' characters were too good. Well....they were right. Whill is of course the main perp in this case. He does not only yhte right thing, but the best right thing (within reason). Hes got money? Spread the wealth. Orpahn? Adoption, etc etc. All of the characters are like that really. All willing to give their time money and lives for what they believe is right, there is no middle ground. Which is something i had a problem with.

Another thing is that Whill is not only a good person, hes also good at everything he trys. Things that would take someone else weeks or even years to learn he does so in half a day. All of the characters are similar in doing impossible things. For example the author has 2 forces fighting. On one side you have monsters that are stronger and faster than humans with scales that can turn many attacks aside, with some that can fly. On the other you have humans about 2 thirds of which are trained fighters. In the fight the humans take mortal wounds and still keep killing the enemy...really? So a dying person has the strength to keep killing these things when he barely could at 100%?

For anyone who wants to blab about possible spoilers above (i didnt pay much attention to keep them out) heres a big one. The book is COMPLETELY predictable. Whill's big mystery of who he is? If you cant figure it out in the first half hour of reading then...well...i wont go there. There are no unexpected twists or turns, it is easy to see everything coming ahead of time. The characters while not a cookie cutter copy are all woefully predictable.

I will not be buying the 2nd book, this book did not entertain me. If i know what is going to happen EVERY SINGE TIME before hand, whats the point? I will say however that i did find the book well written but just because a vanilla cake is baked well does not mean i dont want frosting on it.

I came across this book after searching the word "dwarves" in the Amazon search bar cause I was on a Dwarf kick, and I struck gold. Whill of Agora has one of the most badass, over the top and hilarious dwarves ever thought up...Roakore. The dwarven enviroments and culture are the best I have come across in my years of reading, and when the book goes into detail about their training and their cause, you will become attached. But dwarves aside, Agora contains all kind of stuff that will keep you interested. One thing I loved within the story were the friendships, you honestly feel like the main band of friends would swallow poison for one another. There are some awsome moments that will make you laugh so hard that you will tear up, and there are moments that will make you tear up for different reasons (Roakores' pride at the end of a dwarven training session as he sees the young warriors growing strong). Another cool thing is that all the characters get there due as far as page time goes, so if you end up really liking someone you can be sure they will kicking someones ass at some point, or at least making you laugh. The book is badass, I found zero fault. On a Side note, the website for the book has a couple of art slides that I found cool and some neat background info. I just hope book 2 is as good as the first.. I'm gonna say it, this book is in my top 5 and I have read hundreds of titles. I'm off to drink deep of dwarven ale and sing songs of warriors past
