Once started could not stop - in fact I read through in one night. It was so good to read a
lovely romantic story where the love of God was the center and not the lust of man - I want to read the next one

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Wonderful story! 23 octobre 2002
Par Anna M. Vandenhazel - Publié sur
Upon the death of her husband, Julia Hollis and her 3 children, are forced to leave London and live in the village of Gresham, in an abandoned coaching inn, accompanied by Fiona, a loyal servant who left an abusive past. A friend loans her enough money to make improvements and eventually they open the home to several paying residents. The book starts out rather depressing, but once the Hollis family's lodging business is up and running, lots of interesting and humorous plots develop among neighbors, some of whom believe that the Larkspur Inn is haunted, and the Larkspur Inn's owners and boarders.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 What a fantastic book! 10 février 2003
Par Cheryl McDermitt - Publié sur
This book was really wonderful. The main character, Julia Hollis had so much strength, faith, hope and love. Julia was married to Phillip, who had hidden his love of gambling. She was forced out of her home when Phillip died because of his gambling debts. She moves her family (3 children and her maid/friend) to Gresham to the Larkspur Inn. The Larkspur Inn was the only property of her husbands that the Bank didn't want. She returns the Larkspur Inn back into the beautiful Inn it was in its glory days. Lawanna Blackwell makes you feel as if you are there in Gresham and all the tenants and the owner and her family are your friends! She meets the vicar, Andrew Phelps, whom she forms a friendship with. I can't tell you what happens with the rest of their lives, because it would spoil the book. Do yourself a favor and pick up this book and enjoy! I loved this book so much, I just ordered the other two in this series!!

5.0 étoiles sur 5 A must-read! 22 juin 2000

I highly recommend this book, and the others in this series. It deals with many issues facing Christians in a lighthearted manner, but that doesn't at all mean that it's fluffy. I could not put this book down. Julia Hollis, the main character, moves to the small town of Gresham after the death of her husband and other devastating events. Readers will sympathize as this city girl learns about country living along with her three children. The author achieves a wonderful story with memorable, realistic characters. You don't want to miss this book!

3.0 étoiles sur 5 Overall very good 14 avril 2001

While I must admit this book was not a captivating page turner, it was overall very good. My only disappointment was that it took several hundred pages for me to get really involved in the storyline. I am glad that I stuck with it because it turned out to be very enjoyable. This is the first book I have read by this author and she has sparked my interest enough that I will probably read the rest of this series.

The first third of this book was slow but good, you certainly realized who the protagonist was, is and would be and I related to the story being a single mom. I guess I believed it was going to be one of the cheesy romance novels so I kept going waiting for the action.

The problem with the book started when all of a sudden your introduced to the main hero dude and your already half way through the book and it's almost as if you picked up another book. Seriously, no transition whatsoever I had to back up to see if I had missed something because the main dude doesn't even live in the same town this woman is in. Slowly, but surely it starts wrapping up stories together but by then it's become seriously preachy. Now don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with christian romance... but please label it as such before I go in expecting to find cheesy romance and instead I'm getting led to the alter of Christ along with several characters in the book.

Another problem I had with the book is that it's very predictable. You know exactly what that letter was and who will get together with whom. You even know who will get together in the next book as it's all pretty much laid out. There really isn't a climax and the main protagonist really just spills her guts one day and then realizes it's love... and just like that they decide they will marry before they've really even dated or had 'a courtship' it's all really bizarre at the end.. as though she just wanted to wrap it up.
