From Library Journal
Despite the vastness of modern Blake studies, little has been done recently on his life and its relationship to his work. With this gap in mind, King provides the first biography of the visionary poet and artist in some 50 years. While maintaining that Blake's antipathy to authority and convention derives from hostility to his parents and love for his brother, King remains largely at the surface of Blake's life, making little attempt to probe either his psyche or his times in any detail. While this is not the definitive "life," King has provided a useful and impartial introduction for the serious student and reader. The book is lavishly illustrated.
