There is no subsitute for victory" General Douglas MacArthur,U.S.Army 24 janvier 2007
Par J. Guild - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: Relié
Major General,USAFR,Ret.William A Cohen has put together an excellent book describing sixty-four criteria essential for success in the military,business and life in general. Not surprisingly, the criteria is the same in each endeavour. He has experience in war,been in leadership positions in business,authored over 40 books and currently a professor at UCLA teaching Marketing and Leadership.He should know of what he speaks; and in this book gives us the benefit of his broad knowledge and experiences. Reading this book is like attending his courses or seminars.

He uses the words of over 150 military leaders throughout history to cover each of the 64 criteria essential to Leadership. It is striking how these criteria have remained consistant throughout history.Nearly one-third of the book is made up of excellent reference material.He compares the ranks of the contributors from the different Services and Countries,which can be confusing.He gives a short Biography on 94 of the contributors;and finally an excellent index ,both by subject and contributors.

In the book,the author gives many interesting facts and stories about the contributors whom he quoted.

For instance;

Patton was such a great General;but why is so little heard about him after WWII?

Likewise,Napoleon was considered a military genius;so what led to his defeat and exile?

What would other combat veterns done in Custers position?

And did you know that,Admiral Hyman Rickover was born in Poland,graduated from the U.S.Naval Academy at 22,became an engineer,developed the world's first nuclear submarine,served 63 years and was promoted to full Admiral at the age of 82?

A great book for any military buff,and filled with material and criteria that is worthwhile looking for in present day leaders; in the Military,Politics and Industry.

Very Average. 5 mars 2013

A book titled, “Wisdom of the Generals”, written by a guy who promotes himself on the cover as, “William A. Cohen, Ph.D., Major General, USAFR, Ret.” seems a bit pretentious. Despite this faux pas and the many “I” and “me” references in the text it’s not a bad book. It’s nothing special, or noteworthy but not bad.
