Présentation de l'éditeur

Single-and-pregnant museum worker Melanie voices an idle wish while examining a Scottish artifact, that a Highland warrior would sweep her off her feet and help her forget her cheating ex. The last thing she expects is for her wish to be granted. Magically transported to the middle of a clan skirmish in the sixteenth-century Highlands, she comes face to face with her kilted fantasy man. Tall, handsome, and heir to his uncle’s lairdship, Darcy Keith should be the most eligible bachelor in Ackergill. Instead, thanks to a prank played on him in his teenage years, he is known for being too large under his kilt to ever make a proper husband. “Big Darcy” runs his deceased father’s windmills and lives alone at his family manor, believing he will never marry. But a strangely dressed woman he rescues from a clan skirmish makes him long for more. When the woman’s claims of coming to Ackergill by magic reach the laird’s ears, she is accused of witchcraft. Darcy determines to protect her any way he can, even if it means binding her to him forever.

Biographie de l'auteur

Jessi lives with her husband and children in the Seattle area. She’s a passionate reader of all genres of romance, especially anything involving the paranormal. Ghosts, demons, vampires, witches, weres, faeries...you name it, she’ll read it. As for writing, she's sticking to Highlanders and contemporaries with a paranormal twist (for now). The last time she imagined a world without romance novels, her husband found her crouched in the corner, rocking.

All Things Writing Review--Find me a Kilt! 20 février 2013
Par Mary Ann Loesch - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: Format Kindle
Yep, it's time travel romance that reminded me of Diana Gabaldon's Outlander series. Melanie falls through a time portal due to her idle wish on a special box and ends up coming through the stone circles (think Stonehenge style) to old school Scotland. Like Gabaldon's book, Melanie meets a Highlander warrior who sweeps her off her feet.

However, here's the big difference for me between the two tales: tongue in cheek humor and a heck of a lot less Scottish history lessons. While I love the Outlander, the history bogged it down for me to the point of where I never finished the series! That's not the case here. Wishing for a Highlander is a tight tale that has you rooting for Melanie and Darcy to get together.

I loved that Melanie was pregnant, and I kept wondering how the author was going to make this romance thing work. After all, pregnancy isn't always the most romantic thing! But she pulled it off by creating a hero who feels like an outcast and has sympathy for the strange woman from another time. While Darcy is a the macho type that must be present in a romance, he comes off as a human being capable of changing his thought process.

Melanie is a well written, down to Earth character who makes you laugh with her quirkiness and wonder if she really wants to go home to her time. I thought the chemistry between her and Darcy was fun!

Of course, every romance like this has it's bad guys. Lord Stefan is definitely a guy with a few issues of his own. He has a thing about witches and the fact that Melanie speaks differently and has this odd box, has him immediately wanting to set up a campfire and start roasting our heroine. Again, I was surprised at how well developed his character turned out to be. Let's just say that he's not the traditional bad guy.

I enjoyed the character of Anya. She's the one who sort of keeps the revenge ball rolling as the story goes along since she has had a past with Darcy.

Okay, it's time for the sex talk. How does Wishing for a Highlander measure up? Hot, hot, hot! I will not be going into detail on the subject, but it's well written stuff that makes you want to go out and buy your man a kilt!

Great book!

I must start off by saying that I really did enjoy the plot of the story. This is my first story by this author. Since I am always looking for new authors within my favorite genre (highland romance), I wanted to try her storytelling out. I must admit that the imagination soared here and I love how the author takes a typical highland romance and helps you to imagine "outside of the box". I loved the hero and his family and some other characters further into the book, but the heroine and the hero's cousin (also the Laird) - total turn off and basically ruined my chances of reading this story again.

I'm not going to tell you the entire synopsis of the story because it has already been done by other reviewers. However, I am going to give you bits so that you understand my rating/review. I'm also going to tell you what I liked and didn't like. Hopefully, this will help you in judging whether you wish to read this story or not.

First - I LOVED the Hero! He was everything you could want in a male lead: heroic, strong, sensitive, understanding, gorgeous, brave, vulnerable, passionate, sexy, and just down right lovable. This Hero is why I am looking for my own highlander - ahhhhhhh I guess that won't happen in NJ. hehehehe The H saves the h from being raped by the enemy. Takes her back with him to his clan and protects her with his life - literally. Throughout the entire story, you read the extreme sacrifices the H makes for the h - right down to having to leave his beloved clan to keep the h safe from the nasty cousin (who is also the Laird). The H leaves his family, his business, the ancestry he loves, and all that he knows to keep the ungrateful h safe. The H also has serious vulnerability issues when it comes to women/intimacy because of an issue with a woman from his past. This mean/cruel woman always loved and wanted the H; however, because he didn't choose her years before to wife, she wants to make him suffer - and boy does she cause major trouble. Because the H feels responsible (and attracted to) the h, he watches over her and tries to protect her.

Second - let's get to the heroine. Hated her - she got on my last nerve. She is from present time - she falls for the wrong guy, guy gets her pregnant, guy leaves her for someone else......you get the picture. She works in a museum, finds an ancient relic, and is transported back in time. Hence - her meeting up with our H in the middle of a battle with an enemy clan. Enemy tries to rape her and our H comes along at the right moment and saves her. Hence - the end of the peaceful life as the H knows it. I get that she is scared to be blasted back in time, I get that she wants to get back to her time (I guesssssss), but what I don't get is why she was so cruel to the H through most of the story when all he did was save her continually. Anyway, she is a serious nag all the way back to the clan. The H takes her to meet the Laird (he is the H's cousin and is basically nuts/cruel - especially to outsiders). In order to save her reputation, the H marries her (in name only) so that the clan and the Laird will not treat her badly. The h is so cruel to the H during this even though he is saving her butt. Hate her! The Laird thinks the h is a witch and sends his henchmen to go and take her from the H. They are extremely physically abusive to her. The H comes to rescue her and they leave to be thought of as the enemy.

Now - although I didn't like the h - once she FINALLY realizes how much the H has done for her and everything he gave up for her - and realizes that she is attracted to him, she starts to be kinder - I must give her that. She helps him to overcome his vulnerabilities where intimacy is concerned. She slowly helps him to see that intimacy is a beautiful experiece with the right person. This intimacy allows them to grow to love eachother. I also enjoyed other charactes the H/h meet up with to ask for sanctuary - loved them! The story from there is good enough that I gave this story three stars.

The author is talented in making the baddies really vicious and I was truly on the edge of my seat from half way through the story to the end. I didn't know if they were going to get their HEA, if the H was going to survive the battle, if they were ever going to make it back to the H's beloved clan, and if their love was going to be enough for the stupid h to get over her constandly wanting to come back to the present time.

In the end - the author made me happy with all of the loose ends wrapped up quite nicely. If it wasn't for the heroine, I would have made this a four/five star review. The heroine just brought me down and I wasn't quite sure if I wanted to finish the story a few times, but was glad that I did. Also, the "cousin" aka the Laird - he was nice then evil then nice then evil - that detracted my interest as well.

Would I read this story again - nope. Hope this helps in determing whether to read or not.

Sweet and sexy highlander romance 15 janvier 2013

This is my favorite highlander romance. It's about a pregnant museum worker, Melanie, who, when working with an artifact from medieval Scotland, accidentally triggers its magic and travels back in time, into the midst of a clan battle, where she meets the hero, a Keith warrior named Darcy.

"Big Darcy" is a fabulous hero. He's honorable and compassionate and protective, very alpha in some respects but in other respects rather vulnerable. An early and devastating rejection left him insecure about his ability to please a woman, so it's up to Melanie--also a little insecure, since she's also dealt with rejection in her past--to draw him out of his shell sexually.

I especially enjoyed the humor in the first half of this novel, and in the second half, the sexual awakening that 21st-century Melanie brings to her gentle Scottish warrior.

If you like horses you might not want to read this. 31 janvier 2015

I don't write reviews much but I wish one had given me a heads up about this book. I wanted to like it, it sounded like fun in the description. I thought that for someone who is curator for a museum she was remarkably ill informed but it but suspend the belief and the characters were likable, or interesting. But I didn't find it fun at when the author had to hijack her hero by killing his horse, who had been written as almost a character himself, in a cruel and very painful way when it wasn't at all necessary. There were other ways to have set up this and it ruined the book for me to do it in this fashion. I felt no reason to read the rest. I won't be giving any more of her books a try.

Wishing For A Highlander 4 janvier 2013

First off, I love this book! Ms. Gage made me feel as though I had been tossed back in time right along with the heroine.

The descriptions and characters in this book were amazingly written, and I found that Ms. Gage's decision to send a pregnant, unmarried woman from the 21st Century back to 16th Century Scotland genius. Not only was it keeping to true to our era, but it gave the heroine a whole other set of problems to work through.

I was able to easily relate to Melanie from the very beginning. Though she felt rejected by Darcy, she never gave up and trusted on her intuitive nature to see past the visible, and delve deeper into Darcy's issues, and his heart.

I was up in the air from the beginning of this book, trying to figure out if the future Laird of Ackergill was a Beta or an Alpha male, as he was just the total package when it comes to sexy highlanders! The man has no flaws. It will be near impossible for any reader to, not fall in love with Darcy!

The hero's lack of sexual experience, and Melanie's raging pregnancy hormones set up the perfect situation for over the top sexual tension between the couple. Unlike other romances, Ms. Gage turned the tables on this one, giving the heroine the power to teach her lover the finer points of ecstasy. The scenes were perfectly sensual, and just down right sexy, to watch as new found intimacy blossomed between the couple.

If you loved reading Veronica Wolff's or Melissa Mayhue's Scottish time travels, than Wishing For A Highlander by Jessie Gage should not be missed. It was an outstanding read, and I'm extremely optimistic, that we will be hearing a lot more from Ms. Gage! Even though it's only January, I have to say there is a very strong chance that Jessi will be my favorite new author for 2013!!!

A received a copy of this book from the author for the purpose of an honest review
