Présentation de l'éditeur

“Are you trying to intimidate me, Mr Green?” she asked calmly, refusing to lean back.

“Call me Rafe.” But she just stared at him quietly, her arched brow challenging him to answer her question. It agitated his wolf, but he was so aroused he could barely breathe. He had never met a woman like her. “Yes, I am,” he answered, his every word deliberate. He pressed his hands on the armrests of her chair and leaned closer to her face, never breaking the eye contact. “Is it working?” Closing in the short distance, he kissed her.

Having been raised by humans-first parents, Charlotte Thornton is completely unprepared for a man like Raphael Green, a wolf-shifter. After a lifetime of controlling herself, the onslaught of emotions he causes in her, both lust and aggravation, seem like too much to handle. Unlike human men around her, Rafe is not weak. But neither is she, and Rafe is about to learn it. She finds herself drawn to him unlike any man before, only to learn that he won’t date humans. But what if she weren’t a human?

Rafe never thought he would pursue a human, let alone a woman as dominant as Charly, but his wolf side has other ideas. For a shifter, ignoring their beast’s choice is practically impossible, but he will try; his brother’s marriage is enough of a warning. But as he is drawn to her with a maddening lust, it becomes difficult to prevent his wolf from putting out its call for her. Then her life is threatened and everything changes.

From the high-end neighbourhood of London to peaceful countryside, their enemies hunt them. Time for making up their minds is running out.

Short novel; 45.000 words.
Revised edition, October 2012.

Interesting world development. Just enough variance to make it stand out from the pack. Pun intended! 3 stars because it did need a little polish. Look forward to a sequel in this world of hers.

Is it a UK thing to refer to their pets as "it" constantly? An example from this story: "They exited the car and released Bob, letting it run free, and it took a full advantage of the opportunity..." the writing didn't always seem to flow to me. Instead if referring to the male dog as a him the constant impersonal nature of the writing in several instances threw me off. It put a barrier to getting to know the characters and their personalities at times. Overall I did enjoy the story, but was less involved because of the wording choices the author kept making.

1.0 étoiles sur 5 Hard to stay and finish the book 28 septembre 2012

First off let me tell you the type on my kindle with this book was really hard to read . That being said the story itself was ok, I never really felt anything for the main parties, you never feel the emotion there is no love just what the wolf wants. I really think the author missed the mark on this one. Perhaps other books by this author are better and this one if just off. For the price you can't ask for more, however, I really had to make myself finish the book.

Charly is a heroine to admire. She pursued her schooling and career without family help. She is a lawyer and personifies everything you think of in a strong female push the issue type. She always had a strong sense of smell and she had anger issues, both which weren't normal and a foreshadowing of what's to come.

Rafe is a typical dominate alpha wolf: Confident, chauvinistic, and sexy and of course he knows it. He smells Charly and is deeply interested in her but fights being her mate. No this is not an instant mate romance.

The beginning starts really well and showed promise. But I ended up skipping chapters. Rafe refusing to commit to a human. Now I could see Charly in her strong lawyer persona objecting to his stand but she doesn't. It isn't until Rafe is shown Charly is more than human that changes his mind. So she's a convenient lay when human but can't commit to mating until she's more. Stupid.

At that point I skipped chapters. The book didn't hold my interest. I read the last two chapters and was looking forward to Charly coming into her own. Find her own skin. There was a lot of build up to his, her fist shift would happen in her 30's. She was scared. She may never be human again due to her strong wolf. Her wolf has been contained for decades and there was worry once it was out it wouldn't return to let her human out.

So yes I was really looking forward to her shifting. I'm glad things were sorted with her family but it would have been nice to hear another family member was a full blooded wolf. Or she was adopted. But there wasn't any conclusion there. We don't even hear why her father was so against shifters and the paranormal community. We don't learn HOW her wolf was contained or how her parents knew it could be done. That's a lot of misses for me on my reading enjoyment.

So she shifts. No fanfare. No big deal. Yes she protects her mate but he wasn't even there to see it. So he didn't help her through it she did it herself. Yes there was some difficulty shifting back but that was expected. Nice touch Charly wouldn't obey or listen to her brother-in-law at this crucial time. It's too bad this alpha gene of hers wouldn't exert itself when she was dealing with Rafe. Instead she went into full blonde air head melt down.

I agree with the other reviews. Calling a dog an 'it' is stupid. If it's altered it's still a he. It could have added a lot to the story - I read one book where the dog shed and smelled and the werewolf was complaining of smelling like a dog. Lots of teasing. That didn't happen here. But at least Rafe loved Bob.

This one was a hit and miss for me. Parts of it I liked and others were boring. I assume this was the first book in the series and as such first books aren't always the best. Sometimes it takes two books to get into a series. If I do read into this series it's the price that makes up my mind. - Dan's Wife

I'm not sure if I like this book. It's very interesting. It gives another side and adventure to the shifter-vampire-human relationship...it's a book to ask what happens next.
