Tara is beautiful, charming, but entirely self-centered. Alys also is beautiful, but quieter, cultured, and self-sacrificing. Their paths cross by accident but remain entangled as they become rivals for the same man. Tara marries, then loses him, and in the process remains blind to the one man with whom she could really be happy.
