Présentation de l'éditeur

Note from the author: This collection features three shorts stories that were previously published. "Partnership Material" was available as a stand alone short story. "The Garden" and "What's Best for Violet?" originally appeared as a set titled DARK BLOOMS: TWO CRIME FICTION SHORTS. If you have read those, don't buy this one--they're the same stories!

WOMEN'S WORK contains three short stories by the author of the best-selling Sasha McCandless legal thriller series. The stories in this collection explore the relationship between women--a young attorney, a working mother, and elderly churchgoer--and crime. The common thread among these stories is that each of these respectable, upstanding women confronts a situation where the thing that matters most to her is jeopardized, and she must decide what to do in the face of that threat.

En savoir plus sur l'auteur

USA TODAY Bestselling Author Melissa F. Miller was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Although life and love led her to Philadelphia, Baltimore, Washington, D.C., and, ultimately, South Central Pennsylvania, she secretly still considers Pittsburgh home.

In college, she majored in English literature with concentrations in creative writing poetry and medieval literature and was STUNNED, upon graduation, to learn that there's not exactly a job market for such a degree. After working as an editor for several years, Melissa returned to school to earn a law degree. She was that annoying girl who loved class and always raised her hand. She's worked for major international law firms, clerked for a federal judge, and ultimately started a two-person law firm with her lawyer husband.

Powered by coffee, she writes her legal thrillers while pretending not to hear her three young children wreaking havoc. She has a very lazy dog and three hyperactive gerbils.

These are three short stories that will show you just how strong some women are. Melissa Miller is a fantastic story teller. These stories would have been superb as a 30 minute radio program. Totally enjoyable and the endings will surprise and amuse you.

I was originally just going to read one story a night before sleep because they are short but the first was so great with the female attorney taking power into her own hands to get ahead in a field that is so cut throat and especially toward women. Then, the second was even better when a working mother (or in this case mother bear) took matters into her own hands for her children's safety. Some may say she went overboard but she seemed pleased with her resolution and I know I was. The last line to her husband is great. And for the third story--Who says getting old means you can't still wield some power over your own life (which is what I think is the theme) I loved this woman, if she were real, I would want to live with her.

Melissa Miller is an incredible writer. When I realized how much she had given to the reader in so few pages, I was astounded. It is not easy to get this close to characters in such short stories without really good prose. I could have kept reading stories like hers on and on.

Three different women respond to the threats in their lives. in "Partnership Material" a young attorney, overworked and under appreciated, takes a short cut on the way to the top. In "The Garden" a mother gets even with a bad babysitter. In "What's Best for Violet" an elderly woman has the last say. Three strong women take charge of their lives. Left me smiling :-)

I have read all of Melissa Millers work and find her book to be realistic and an exciting read. Her short stories are quite grabbing and while I am more of a novel person I found these three short stories to be a delight.

If you have not become a fan of this talented author these short stories are a great way to start. Ms. Miller writes those "couldn't put it down!" books and stories that draw the reader in and keeps them there. I would love to see her Sasha McCanless books made into a TV series. Is shows that a small stature female can be the strong victor rather than the victim. Enjoy this Author immensely !
