Présentation de l'éditeur

Smut sells.

Michael Rourke learned this the hard way.

Struggling to make ends meet as a mystery writer, he sold his soul - and his pride - as he pedaled sex and lust writing under the pen name Christoph Strong.

No one knew he was the one behind the steamy stories on the bestsellers lists. And he planned to keep it that way.

Until he met her.

Monica Singer, an infamous blogger, is keen to discover the truth of his secret identity.

During a chance meeting at a book convention, Michael and Monica form an instant connection. And soon, an industry rivalry becomes something else entirely.

But as Michael starts to let his guard down, he doesn’t realize that the person he's learning to trust may be hiding secrets of her own.

Secrets that could ultimately destroy everything.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Five hilarious stars! 15 juillet 2014

I won't rehash the plot and blurb for you here, because there's plenty of reviews that will do that, what I will say is how this book made me feel. As both a reader and a writer the book world can be a frustrating one. So HUGE props to Amalie for telling it how it is out there.
No one is safe in this book, bloggers, writers, fans. She took a theme, which isn't often written about and wrapped a story around it, and she could have left it there, but she didn't. She was braver - and funnier than that. She dove face first into the publishing dramas and pitfalls and opened that crazy can of worms right up.
She twisted every angle, and exposed every ugly secret that there is to tell, and it turned out to be one of the funniest and most brilliant books I've read in a long time because of it.

The main characters had such a great connection, their back and forth banter had me in stitches at times and yet when things began to heat up between them...damn! Wait, no that doesn't correctly express how it was, let me try that again. I meant DAYUuuuuuuUM!
That's not to say that the MC's and the wicked funny plot are the only thing that's good about this, because it isn't. Every character in the book is so well thought out and planned that their friendships were totally real to me, and that's what makes them all so lovable. The friendship and banter between them all. The catchy little one-liners. The sexy romance. The angst. The drama. Did i mention this was hilarious?

Loved this book, and can't wait to see what Amalie Silver comes up with next. This is an author to watch.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 This books was one of the best summer reads of 2014! 11 août 2014

Once in a while I buy a book (not getting it through my blog to read) and I am super happy I did. I heard about Word Play, through a friend and decided to read it one slow weekend. This has to be one of the bests reads I have had all summer long.

Michael Rourke is a writer. After writing other books, and not becoming a successful by writing mystery, he turns to what is hot right now. Writing erotica. But Michael doesn't write under his own name, but rather a pen name, Christoph Strong. This way no one knows it is him. Michael is not thrilled with his new writing endeavors, but it is paying the bills. Actually, he is making a killing! So now his publisher wants his to do book signing. The only problem with that, is that people might found out who he really is. But his books are so in demand, they need him out there.

At a book convention "Christoph" meets 'Monica Singer'. She is an infamous blogger that had previously trashed his work. While he is peeved at her review, he finds himself attracted to the women behind it. The only problem is that she is not Monica, she is Lauren. No spoilers here, but Lauren is more than he thinks she is.

The attraction and fling between Michael/Christop and Monica/Lauren is hot and at the same time comical. These two have a connection, but it seems it is not destined for anything big because these two are using huge secrets!
This book was a behind the scenes look at the book world. Writes, publishes, bloggers etc. I found it hysterically funny and sweet at the same time. Amalie Silver put her heart and soul into this book. She came out with Faceplace, Greatreads, Twatter, Amazonia, and my favorite, Instaguru. You know exactly what she was talking about with a spin on the names.

If you are looking for a book that is different from the rest of the other books out there right now, this is it. It is funny and sweet. It is romantic and crazy insane. It is the best book I have read this summer. No lie, and I am a blogger!!

5.0 étoiles sur 5 The Gift that made me snort laugh 27 août 2014

4.5 A fabulous friend gifted this book to me.
Some authors try too hard when writing a sarcastic romantic comedy, they act as though there is a laugh track in their book which their isn’t, or worse them mimic an old comedy series or movie, and they think they are being original. They are the first to tell you just how funny they are, and how funny their books are. Then there are writers like Amalie Silver, who’s brilliance just shines through her written word. She doesn’t have to tell anyone how funny she is, because the written word does it for her. Be warned this book isn’t for everyone, if you are in the blogger/book community and can’t laugh about what goes on around you, then don’t read this book. You might see yourself and the light depending who you are; reflected back on you might not be the most sparkling. If you can laugh at yourself and the industry that we have immersed ourselves in then give this book a whirl, you will be a better reader for it; as it is charming, witty, engaging, hilarious and heartfelt. Yes, there is plenty of sexy times in the book, but what would a book about an erotica author consist of, ‘How to Clean the Floor 101’?

As to the characters, they are some of the most three dimensional I have read in a romantic comedy, they aren’t just caricature of what the author thought would be funny. The banter and dialogue isn’t forced, and it’s because the characters give good ‘word play’ that makes this an outstanding read.

Why not 5 Stars, cause I want to know what happened eight years ago in detail! I want more details than the author provided. You left me hanging, but guess what, it’s your book your prerogative. :)

**Yes the unprotected sex made me cringe, but that is my cross to bear

3.0 étoiles sur 5 Different than your typical romance novel 10 octobre 2014
Par Nancy The Bookaholic - Publié sur Amazon.com

I was disappointed with this book. I was very excited to start this book but then I did and it dragged and then I got a little excited because at 35% it was picking up and then it flopped and disappointment set in again.

Struggling to make a living as Michael Rourke, a mystery author, is forced to start writing erotica romance under the pen name of Christoph Strong. The author Christoph Strong was beginning to be known around the world and quickly became an international best seller. He’s a bit embarrassed that he has to resort to writing erotica to pay his rent. And unfortunately because he was embarrassed he couldn’t share his fame with his friends and family. He didn’t want anybody to find out who he really was.

One of his nemesis is an author by the name of Betty Black. She had the top blogs begging for ARC’s, and her street team was relentless. And once her books went live his book sales halted. While on his way to a book convention in Houston his agent emails him and informs him that the cat’s out of the bag. A photo was tweeted (shouldn’t it be twatted in this book since the site is called Twatter? LOL) of him as being the great Christoph Strong. So doing the only thing he knew what to do in this time of crisis, he gave the people what they wanted and BECAME the great Christoph Strong.

Monica Singer is one of the top bloggers in the industry and gave Christoph’s book a critical review. So naturally he didn’t like her too much. When Monica and Christoph first meet there wasn’t too much pleasantries changed between the two. Monica’s assessment of Christoph is right on when she states that he’s pretending to be humble and laid back. You can feel the tension swarming off them.

Although this book was different and not your typical romance novel, it didn’t WOW me enough to give it over 3 stars. It was just MEH to me. I was hoping for so much more with all the great reviews it was getting amongst my GoodReads friends. But everybody’s taste are different right!?

I did love how the author switched up the names of the popular websites: Twatter, GreatReads, & Amazonia to name a few.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 So much fun! 18 août 2014
Par Southern Belle Book Blog - Publié sur Amazon.com

I was just talking to a few friends the other day, and we all agreed that not every book has to be overly deep. It doesn’t have to pull you under and feel like you’re drowning in emotions. Sometimes, it’s nice to just have some fun. Word Play is that book. It has the sweet, it has the angst, it has the excitement, but more than anything, I just had a blast reading this book. It’s so creative and extremely different from anything else I’ve read lately. I found myself making notes and highlighting all over the place, which I normally don’t do. Simply put, I loved this book. I see many rereads of this one in the future.

Usually I’d give a little mini Erin-ified synopsis, but this will tell you what you need to know: “Smut sells. And I had rent to pay.” Christoph aka Michael is an erotica author, but not by choice so much. He was originally writing mystery, but those didn’t take off. Suddenly he’s thrust into the erotica genre, which of course, as fans, we know went BOOM! This is the story of a short time in his life where his identity is given away, and all of the craziness that ensues. It’s his life as an author and his relationship with another author, Betty aka Lauren. It’s the story of Michael trying to navigate through this intense and probably a bit overwhelming book world, plus falling in love.

Okay so here’s my official thought on this book: I think it should be a requirement for every blogger to read Word Play. It’s fun! You need to have a good humor about it all. Let yourself poke fun of the blogging world. We work our tails off, we do our best to support our favorite authors, but you know…it was sort of amazing to laugh about certain aspects. Blogging is exhausting sometimes, but when you see it from this side of things, it brings it all back to being just SO enjoyable. It made me giggle but also nod my head, because it’s so dead on. It’s our world. The bloggers, the authors, the signings, the fans, the “eek”-ing (or in this case, it’s “smeep” which is way cooler than Eeek so I may start using that), and the crazy drama that goes with all of that. You also see it from an author’s point of view (I don’t know if it’s entirely accurate but it sure seemed like it could be in my opinion), which is very intriguing as a fan.

On top of the indie book world extras and definitely the more important part of the entire book, I LOVE this love story. You’ve got the romance and tension. You’ve got the excitement and sexiness. There are so many will they/won’t they moments that will keep you on the edge of your seat. You’ll be cheering them on, knowing that they both want one another and you just cannot wait to get to THAT point where it finally all happens. The characters seem well-developed, definitely Michael more than Lauren although that’s to be expected since it’s centered on him mainly. I loved these characters together, as well as their interactions with friends/coworkers. I was enthralled with their lives from page one.

Overall, I adored this book. It’s a romance so of course it’s got the elements we all hope for, but the entire story just went above and beyond for me. I love that someone finally wrote about what we all live every day, and because of that, it’s definitely at the top of the most memorable books for me. Silver did a fantastic job writing this unique story, and I can’t wait for more.

<3 Erin
