Présentation de l'éditeur

"The heart isn’t like the liver. It doesn’t regenerate, no matter how much time passes. Once it’s gone, it’s gone for good. I’d left mine with Sebastian when I walked away that day, and I hadn’t seen it in the seven years since." — Lux Kincaid

At eighteen, Lux is forced to make a choice. One that nearly destroys her.

She breaks a boy’s heart.

She breaks her own, too.

Seven years later, Lux never expects to see Sebastian again — especially not when her career as a journalist is hanging by a thread and she’s stumbled onto the story of a lifetime. As she chases down leads and explores the dark underbelly of Manhattan, Lux will put her life on the line. But after crossing paths with a still-unforgiving Sebastian, it’s her heart she’s most worried about.

Amidst the blame and the betrayal, the hurt and the heartbreak… can two lost lovers ever find their way back to one another?

Lines will be blurred. The past will be unearthed. And Lux will find out that some secrets aren’t meant to be kept…

**SAY THE WORD is a sassy, sexy, suspenseful contemporary romance intended for readers ages 17 and up.**

I don't usually write reviews because I'm not good at it. But I just HAD to write one for Julie Johnson "say the word". I have to admit that I wasn't sure whether I'd like it at the beginning, fearing it would be a love/hate book with whining characters, non necessary cruelty etc. I was soooo far from the truth!
Both Lux and Bash are perfect characters. They are both intelligent (thank god), the dialogues are quick and smart and funny, ok sometimes also heart wrenching because yes there is a love/hate thing but thankfully it dissapears fast; but all in all just what you want from the main characters. Lux's friends made me think of "the devil wears prada" , and they were the perfect sidekicks. Again, no clichés and entertaining as hell. I can't remember how many times I laughed out loud at their banter. And Jamie, omg, what to say? I have never cried that much reading a book than with this one. Don't get me wrong, it's the good kind of tears. The ones where you smile as you cry.
I loved the underplot a lot. Because I think the book would have been too much of the same thing without it. It brings a perfect balance in it, and on top of it it covers a topic everybody should be aware of and do something about.
I can't count the many twists and turns Julie gave this book, and I couldn't put it down. I had to at a certain moment because my eyes would have burned through my skull...
The way she writes about love, life, it is something one must experience in a lifetime. This woman is sooo talented, she needs to get a huge prize for this book! All in all, it's a huge page turner, you will laugh, cry, shout out loud, get frustrated, exhilarated and you get beautiful life and love insights as a bonus. An absolute must buy! I hope they make a move out of this, because with the right actors they'd go straight for the oscars. I will definitely purchase more books from Julie, but first.. I'm just gonna read it again !!!

After a difficult start - too much drama, too angsty for me - this book was a page turner !
You think you're going to read a romantic story but it turns into a suspence book with love.
The beginning had me off. The now & then chapters came when you least wanted them. I wanted to know the story. Yes, I'm impatient.
The lettres in this book had me sobbing for a long time. this is such a beautiful thing, message from the dead. Loved it.

This is only the second book written by Julie Johnson, but she did it as good as her first book ( like gravity )
I'm so pleased I bought this book without blinking an eye, without even reading the synopsis. I have faith in this writer. I recommand her books.
4,5 stars ( because of the first 4 chapters I can't give it a full 5 stars )

I really liked this book, but the subplot was a little distracting. I found myself skipping pages because I felt disconnected. Overall, it was a good book that could have been a great book. I love Sebastian's and Lux's story. The author did a great job in telling their story in the past and the present, I just felt like the subplot was not necessary.

What else can I say besides that I devoured this book? I flew through Say The Word without realizing it because Julie Johnson did such a good job at getting me to interested and invested SO quickly. I've never read anything by this author before, but I will definitely be seeking out more of her books after this.

This book is so much more than a romance, and I loved that. The added elements only enhanced the story. I never felt like it was crowded. Everything flowed really well. And the dialogue? Amazing.

I'm usually not a fan of love/hate relationships. But this one is so well done that I wasn't bothered by it at all. The relationship between Lux and Sebastian seemed authentic. I cannot comment on Lux's twin brother without being brought to tears again. It was a beautiful part of the story that I really loved.

If you're a fan of New Adult, I don't know why you haven't ordered this book yet. (If you have, high five.) It has everything that you expect from the genre and SO much more. As someone who's still discovering the New Adult genre, I can definitely say this book is perfect for those on the fence. It's a beautiful story that highlights Julie Johnson's talent and the potential of the New Adult genre.

**I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. My thanks to Book Enthusiast Promotions and Julie Johnson.

2.0 étoiles sur 5 This one specific thing didn't let me enjoy the story! 23 juillet 2014

Unpopular opinion alert!

The synopsis was very intriguing and I took it up as soon as I had bought it. However, already during the first pages I got a feeling that it didn’t really appeal to me at all, and not because of the plot, which was as good as the description promised, but due to the style. A story can be enjoyable and awesome, but if it’s written in a way or employs techniques that I find irritating and dull, then there is little that can be saved. With this story the main reason for my dislike was the 1st person narrative with endless, pointless, irrelevant and excessive inner monologues of the protagonist.

Inner dialogue in moderation is more than acceptable and even necessary, but reading four pages of Lux eg. buying alcohol with flashbacks, overall too much telling without showing, too much description/emotion/thoughts regarding everything that happens or she comes across – it was more than I could bare and cared to know about. Especially, since I felt most stuff wasn’t remotely related to the plot or helped it move along, it was distracting, too much detail and so so random at times. I’m exaggerating now, but at one point it really felt like she would wake up and tell and continue telling in detail about her whole experience while sleeping the night before (dreams and what they meant, sleeping positions, her past sleeping habits, etc) or if she would take a pen and then tell how this pen has been a part of her and how this pen has been with her through all sort of situations and then starts talking about these situations in detail, and then suddenly starts philosophizing over the meaning of life, etc, etc. I wanted more dialogue, action and a lot lot lot less inner ramblings!

Some more regarding this issue: There was this awesome, electric, full of sexual tension scene soon after Lux and Bash met again and it was sizzling, but then she starts with her inner monologue again, you get one paragraph of that great scene with me on my edge on what will happen, and then talk on her contemplating and thinking of the past, then back to the action and then her thinking to herself again. It totally killed the explosive atmosphere! I had some issues with buying their love and attraction till that scene as well (the basis for their connection just seemed weak to me – very much like insta love), so it would have been a great opportunity for me to lessen my hesitation if done right.

Ok, enough of the negative, this book also had great aspects as well:

First, regarding the inner talk, despite me disliking it with a passion, I have to admit the author writes well. The text goes smoothly, the vocabulary is wide and vivid, sentences just flow and it’s really easy to follow.

I liked the story going back between then and now. They provided the two stories with nice breaks and upped the anticipation. The contrast between the setting and characters between when they were young and during the main story was nicely illustrated.

The latter part of the book also upped its game with action, there were some exciting moments and edge of your seat tension.

The mystery plot was something I appreciated as well, however unlikely the course of events may seem. It gave the story more substance and layers.

I have to explain my 2 star rating here a bit I guess. The book is not bad, it’s very well written with a decent plot, but I found myself quite irritated, skipping pages and waiting for the end to come because the style absolutely didn’t go well with me and it ruined the story for me. This is, however, a matter of taste and what I find annoying, others might prefer, so if you don’t mind a lot of inner talk, then don’t be taken aback by my rating and still give this a try. Overall, the feedback for the book is positive so, obviously, I’m in the minority.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Scorching Hot Love-Hate Relationship 5 juin 2014
Par Amazon Reviewer - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format:Format Kindle
Rating: 4.5 stars

SAY THE WORD is a story about finding the one person who truly completes you and when that happens, no matter the time or distance that separates you both, that love never goes away. It is a beautiful love story about a woman given a second chance at love, all while lies and secrets begin to unravel all around her. It is a book you absolutely cannot put down because you will be on the edge of your seat in anticipation the entire time.

Lux Kincaid is the girl from the wrong side of the tracks and knew it. Lux and her twin brother Jamie are pretty much on their own, which is horrible given the fact that Jamie is extremely sick. However, when she met Sebastian Covington, it was like she saw the sun for the first time in her dreary life. They fell hopelessly in love and shared beautiful moments together - until she shattered his heart to pieces, making sure his heart was a pile of dust. This was how this book opened and I'll be honest, it wasn't pretty (see below for excerpt). Lux was cruel and heartless and I flinched at some of the things she said to the boy she loved. But, she had her reasons for crushing him so she walked away and refused to let herself look back.

Fast forward seven years and Lux is working as a columnist for a fashion magazine - think "The Devil Wears Prada." While running an errand for her boss, she comes face to face with Sebastian, but he's not the same boy with a beautiful smile who lit up the room. In his place was a man with a wall built around his heart and never showed any real emotion. The moment these two see each other again it is electric.

The chemistry between Lux and Sebastian was by far one of my favorite things about this book. No matter what either felt, it was evident that there was an electrical current running from one to the other. They were drawn to each other and their feelings bounced back and forth between love and hate. There is something about love-hate relationships that fascinate me. I've heard the saying many times - "there is a fine line between love and hate" - and I feel like this book encompasses that saying perfectly. Their chemistry was off the charts hot and I couldn't wait for them to find their way back to one another. Sebastian and Lux really went at it many times and it was this banter and aggression that really drove the book for me. Their verbal warfare was addicting and it was painfully obvious that they wanted to jump each others bones, despite what their words were saying.

And then there was Sebastian. Sebastian in high school was perfection. He was sweet and open and saw a future filled with options for both him and Lux. However, the Sebastian we see in the future is not the same, and quite frankly I don't blame him. He's been hardened by what Lux did to him and it is very obvious how it changed him. He was actually quite cruel to Lux, but again, I got it and knew what he was doing. You could feel the war raging inside of him every time he said one thing but looked at her with longing and lust. I'm embarrassed to admit that I liked adult Sebastian a little bit better - he wasn't a love sick puppy, he was a man that began fighting for what he wanted, even if he went in a round about way of getting it.

The romance between Lux and Sebastian was truly the best part of the book and in my opinion, I think the book would've been perfect had it just focused on that. But the romance, is not all that this book is about. There is a subplot that involves missing girls that Lux is researching for a story. In all honesty, I felt like this subplot took me out of the story. Pretty much the first 60% of this book was all about Sebastian and Lux - their past, their present and the sudden reemergence in each others lives. This was what kept me reading. However, when Lux would go off investigating the missing girls I felt a disconnect.

Don't get me wrong, the subplot was good and I wanted to know more about it. However, I felt like I was reading two different books. One was a second chance romance, while the other was thriller that involved conspiracy, kidnapping and the FBI. I personally was more invested in the romance aspect of this story though. I found myself wanting the missing girl plot to hurry up so that I could get back to the romance. I am unsure if this was because the subplot wasn't introduced until later in the book, but I just felt like the two didn't flow seamlessly together. I almost felt like this subplot was unnecessary, especially because this book was rather long.

The romance, the sexual tension, the chemistry, the characters all made this book a 5 star read for me. The writing was beautiful and I became completely lost in the story. However, the subplot had me bringing this rating down, but I cannot possibly give this book less than a 4.5 star rating because of how much I loved Lux and Sebastian's story. It is exactly why I read romance and their story is now one of my favorite second chance romances. I feel like this book is a blend of "The Devil Wears Prada" and "Bully." I've read both books and it just had the feel of them both. I highly recommend this book to those that love second chance romances and love-hate relationships. Julie Johnson did a fabulous job with creating a love story that was realistic, heart-breaking and beautiful all at the same time.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Sizzling romance with a dangerous edge!! 7 juin 2014
Par jennifer fischer - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format:Format Kindle
Where do I begin with this book? It was ABSOULTY AMAZING!! It was Sex and the City meets How to Lose a Guy In 10 days meets Taken!!! But so much more!! Julie Johnson seriously has a gift!! The way she is able to make the reader connect so deeply to the character is off the charts amazing!! Say The Word is soo much more than the typical Young Adult romance novel. It pulls on your heartstrings, makes you laugh and want best friends like Fae and Simon, and makes you want to get up and help victims of evil people of this world.

At the begging of the book you find Lux Kincaid having to make a decision she clearly does not want to make. I kept asking myself "Why Lux, Why are you doing this?? Why why why??" The answer to my question shocked me beyond belief!!
Say The Word kept me guessing the whole time!! Between the sparks that were flying off the page when Lux and Bash were in a scene together and the mystery behind the missing girls, I never knew what was going to happen next!! At first I was wondering how everything was going to tie itself together, and after I read more of the novel I thought I had it figured out. Boy was I wrong! When everything was said and done I was like "OMG!! WHAT???" and I pretty sure my mouth was hanging open in shock!! The best twist I've read!! And the romance!! OMG the hot, sizzling romance does not disappoint!! Lux and Bash are amazing together!! (When will I meet my Bash?!?! haha) I want to tell y'all more but I don't want to spoil anything!! Just know that when you read this book you will not want to put it down!! I feel a reread coming on in 5,4,3,2,1..... haha seriously though!!
If you have not one clicked this you need to get on it! You will not be disappointed, it is unbelievably good!
