Revue de presse

"There's tons of lore for the story enthusiasts, including — wait for it — an official timeline of events, something many of us have been clamoring for, for quite a while now. If you're a big WoW geek (like most of the staff here at WoW Insider)it wouldn't be surprising for this book to earn a place of pride on your bookshelves." – Joystiq.com

Présentation de l'éditeur

For decades, the war between the Horde and the Alliance has raged on in the fantasy world of Azeroth. Millions of players have chosen a faction and fought alongside one another in Blizzard Entertainment's critically acclaimed massively multiplayer online role-playing game, World of Warcraft® — and since its release in 2004, the game has grown to become the most popular subscription-based MMORPG on the planet.

Created in close collaboration with Blizzard, World of Warcraft®: The Ultimate Visual Guide explores the major characters, key locations, and epic history of this battle-scarred realm, and will capture any adventurer's imagination with its breadth of detail. Players will find a treasure trove of game knowledge, as the book delves deep into the series' lore and even goes be yond the game, giving readers a peek at the behind-the-scenes development of Blizzard's vivid fantasy world. This detailed guide is the perfect companion for any adventurer, Alliance or Horde.

— ASPECT —

Must have for WoW fans 27 septembre 2013
Par adamczar - Publié sur Amazon.com

I pre-ordered this not knowing what to expect and was pleasantly surprised. Lots of great artwork, and very well written text. I sat down to glance through it, and ended up reading the entire thing in one sitting in about 2.5 hours. Even though I knew a lot of the lore, there was a lot I didn't know, and this filled the gaps. Great "coffee table book" too.

The only criticism I have is that it advertised a lot of "behind the scenes" stuff which only consists of a few pages near the back of the book that doesn't provide any insight at all, it's just like "photos from BlizzCon," etc. I didn't order it for that, so wasn't put off by it, but some might be.

A MUST HAVE!!! 2 octobre 2013
Par Paul - Publié sur Amazon.com

The book contains beautiful artwork as well as simplified information about the Lore of World of Warcraft. But because the book is simplified, the information does not specify details of information such as the novels does with Arthas' childhood and his horse Invincible or how Illidan truly felt when Tyrande chose Malfurion over him. I guess you could say that this book is just for people who are new to the Lore of World of Warcraft and who wants to get a brief summary of it in just 200 pages rather than thousands whether it be in the books or in-game content. I love the visuals the book contains which is a mix of the concept art, the World of Warcraft comic book's art, in-game art and etc. The books contents is categorized as:

1) Introduction
2) The Chronicles of Azeroth
3) The Alliance
4) The Horde
5) The Pandaren
6) Heroes and Villains
7) Behind the Scenes

Now the book's information isn't just about the MMO version of Warcraft but also the previous games about it. Although I have yet to finish reading the book, my favorite part so far has to deal with the Chronicles of Azeroth because of how the book explains the timeline as well as the important figures within that timeline such as the Titans and Sargeras, the Burning Legion, Ner'zhul and the War of the Ancients. Unfortunately, there is little information about the Old gods which is to be expected considering that they are still a mystery in the Lore.

The design of the book is magnificent because of the hard cover and a removable book cover to have the cover of the book just show the design of the cover without any text. Just see the picture of the product and imagine it without having the title as well as the text in the bottom. Although the book still has the publisher in the back as well as the barcode but that's alright I guess.

Overall the book deserves a 9.5/10 and 5/5 for the moment. Perhaps I'll come back to edit it when I finish reading the book.

Lots of good content but the worst behind the scenes in the history of behind the scenes. 26 septembre 2013

The layout of the book is nice and does a nice job of going through the history of Warcraft. The behind the scenes has nothing to do with the development of Warcraft and basically shows you pictures of Blizzcon and Blizzcon Panels along with some Warcraft merchandise. No pictures of the developers working in house or even the support team behind Warcraft. I take 2 stars away for this because the description read as "even goes be yond the game, giving readers a peek at the behind-the-scenes development of Blizzard's vivid fantasy world." and is nothing that you won't see on any website that covers Blizzcon.

Beautiful, thorough, enlightening 31 octobre 2013

I didn't discover Warcraft until the MMORPG (which I've played for years now), so a lot of the lore and history of the characters has been hard for me to follow. This book does a great job of touching on most of the major characters and events in the game's history and the artwork is wonderful.

This is definitely a book for those who truly love the games, so if you do, you won't be disappointed!

Beautifully illustrated - a great opus to World of Warcraft 8 décembre 2013

DK puts out some fantastic books. The books are always ruggedly constructed and have wonderful illustrations.

This book is no exception. For fans of World of Warcraft (WoW), you will recognize most if not all of the artwork.

It is a bit of a survey book. That is almost unavoidable though, because there is a lot of material. You could probably do a five volume set of books this size and still not cover all of the existing WoW lore.

The book covers the current WoW canon (that has changed a great deal over the past ten years), but gives a nod to areas where the WoW lore changed significantly over the years.

There were a few things that I wondered about, but I have faith that DK got the lore right.

One of the coolest things about this book is that you can tell that this was done by folks who were fans of WoW.

The world and its denizens are treated with great respect.

You could not play WoW just by reading this book, but you could learn enough that you would want to learn more.

It appears that Blizzard is pulling away a bit from WoW. There are several follow-on games in the works, currently in Beta. So, this might be the perfect time to have a retrospective look at phenomenon that has become part of popular culture.

In service,

Rich
