There are ideas in the book that may seem trivial, but are certainly not covered in most other summaries of LinkedIn. It remains to be seen if they will help your profile be more effective or not.

I'd rate this book 4 stars, except it has so many self promotions (of the author's other services) that it's as much a sales brochure for the author's business as it is a book of information.

I only budgeted a brief time to reading the book so far, but managed to transform my LinkedIn profile. I'm usually a skeptic about these kinds of books and hope other social media guides will copy the style here:
1) The book gets you exactly where you need to go as far as LinkedIn as a website, so you don't waste time looking for buttons if you're not spending your life at LinkedIn.
2) But then the advice comes in short, sharp but highly intelligent pieces, relevant to exactly where you are. She really knows what she's talking about, and puts the right piece of advice on the right page.

Not many authors smart enough to be subtle also do the work to be organized enough to match each edit button on a website. Where another book you might read a chapter of general advice and then stumble around trying to figure out what it means for you, here I'd read a paragraph and make a useful change, then repeat, all very quickly.

I am new to Linkedin and fairly inexperienced with the user interface and how the website search engine works. This book came as a recommendation from my Computer Information System professor, Adrienne Wheeler. For practical reasons, this may be the best book reference I've ever gotten from a professor. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who is unfamiliar with the site or any seasoned professional who regularly uses the site for networking and job searching. This book can serve anyone as a blueprint for utilizing and harnessing this site as medium for professional development.
Many of the talking points may come across initially as common sense, but with further introspection into the topics it gives the reader a guided insight into the reasoning behind the topics and how to successfully utilize the interface provided. Not only does this book state potential problems with a profile, it states specific solutions and what to apply to the fields of your user profile. Aside from that, this book shows examples and formatting techniques that will help you get noticed by and peak the interest of potential employers who are using the site's search engine for recruitment. With the help of the book you'll notice a lot of different features on the website that you never knew existing and how to successfully deploy those applications. Also, there's more than 18 talking points and extra tips. Although most social networking websites are constantly updated and changed due to changing trends in technology and to keep users interested; the basics, structures, formatting, and the talking points in this book should serve as a template for any future changes to the interface.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Structure, Grammar, Spelling, & Keywords! - I Need to Meet This English Grad from Yale 20 février 2013

I hope to meet author Brenda Bernstein one day and thank her for authoring "How to Write a KILLER LinkedIn Profile...and 18 Mistakes to Avoid" (available for free on Amazon if you have an Amazon Prime account). LinkedIn has become an essential search tool for companies and is now the second most important professional sourcing data base for search firms (the first being their own internal data base). It is now imperative for any individual in-transition or considering a job change make sure they are maximizing the use of LinkedIn. As the saying goes, "out of sight, out of mind."

I have been deeply involved with the use of LinkedIn as co-leader of a parish-based (SING, St. Isidore Catholic Church, Danville, CA) ministry focused on helping those who are in-transition since 2001. Our ties to LinkedIn are so close that we were the first LinkedIn group ever to be formed. Being customer focused, they heard our need and created a restricted group for us. They went on to create "groups" which now number over 50,000.

I am always looking for teaching materials for all aspects of our transition program and recently came across Brenda's ""How to Write a KILLER LinkedIn Profile...and 18 Mistakes to Avoid." It is perfect for our ministry. She provides her 18 mistakes to avoid - keywords, poorly thought out summaries and tag lines which fail to differentiate, keywords, distracting or irrelevant photos, few connections or recommendations, ineffective group participation, and much more - and her 7 bonus tips. This is a practical how-to book with examples sprinkled throughout.

Brenda promises that "your numbers will soar if you follow the advice given" (and I would agree). Greig Wells of BeFoundJobs.com claims that you will get one job offer for every 300 LinkedIn views.

Brenda also stresses good structure, grammar, and spelling. But then, what would one expect of a someone with a degree in English from Yale! This is a fun and quick read...and will provide insights to even the most experienced LinkedIn users.

The e-book, "How To Write A Killer Linkedin Profile...And 18 Mistakes To Avoid," gives you the resources to accomplish exactly what it advertises, and is a direct and concise reflection of the experiential knowledge base that the author possesses. You are getting exactly what you'd expect, only more so. I couldn't recommend it more.
