5.0 étoiles sur 5 Next best thing to having a class with her 25 septembre 2011
Par Michael - Publié sur
I had the privilege of taking her one-hour drama class at U.S.C. I learned an immense amount not only about writing television drama but writing in general (character objectives, conflict, structure, outlining, scene construction, effective dialogue, etc.). She ran the classroom like it was a writers' room, and outside of class, I had this book (earlier edition) to help me prepare. If you aren't fortunate to be in a position to take a class with her, then this is the next best thing. Get this book now, because everything you need to know from structure to breaking in to the business is here, and I would suggest this book as a useful complement: Starting Your Television Writing Career: The Warner Bros. Television Writers Workshop Guide

5.0 étoiles sur 5 A Clear Roadmap to TV Writing Success 29 novembre 2011
Par Ann Baldwin - Publié sur
Pamela gives you an in-depth look at what it takes to break into and make a living at writing for TV drama. She covers the history of TV shows and programming from the three-network era to current day with cable and the internet, which created more opportunities for writers. You'll learn the process of how shows get on TV to include diagrams of the two-year (month-by-month) development and first season of a new show, which gives writers a realistic road map of what to expect.

You gain the benefits from Pamela's tips and advice on the do's and don'ts of working on staff for a show as she includes numerous examples from her own and other writers experience in the trenches. She includes three enlightening interviews with seven of her former USC film students as you hear what each of them went through in the fourteen years after they graduated.

Each chapter is followed by an interview with seasoned professionals such as Steven Bochco (NYPD Blues, L.A. Law, Hillstreet Blues), Ann Donohue (CSI: Miami), Robert and Michelle King (The Good Wife), Georgia Jeffries (Cagney & Lacey, China Beach), David Isaacs (M*A*S*H, Mad Men) and many more who give you a wealth of sound insights to guide you on your journey.

I highly recommend Writing The TV Drama Series for all writers who want a clear and detailed picture of life as a writer for TV drama

A must-have book for university screenwriting professors as well as die-hard fans of television drama. Slipping into the pages of Pamela Douglas' "Writing the TV Drama Series" is not unlike being invited to sit in on an exclusive master class taught by 11 of the most creative minds in Hollywood. These experts' collective insights on the creative process and the realities of breaking into the business are illuminating and encourage readers to come away with a better understanding of what makes them tune in every week to their favorite programs. If you've ever said to yourself, "I could write a show like that," this text is a major wake-up call that it's not as easy as it looks.

The best book in this field just got even better. Since the Second Edition came out in 2007, writers and producers have been referring to the Second Edition in writers rooms at shows, in classrooms and workshops, and in conversations about the art, craft and business of television. It was like the "bible" for professional TV writers. But now the author has gone even further with insights beyond craft and advice. The Third Edition still has all that, but venturing into the future, new media, interpretations of current shows, and fresh interviews puts it over the top.
