The onslaught continues. . . 8 août 2013

Volume 2 of the Complete Onslaught Epic moves the story forward only slightly. There's an issue of Wolverine that reveals a key detail about the nature of Onslaught. There are two issues of X-Factor that resolve the Dark Beast storyline. There's an X-man/X-Force crossover which gets Mr. Sinister involved with the proceedings. But other than that, this second volume mostly involves other Marvel heroes (Spider-man, The Punisher, and the heroic Green Goblin) battling Sentinels in NYC with little knowledge of what's really going on. In fact, the best written issues are those that involve non-X-men characters; they continue the regular storylines of those books, with the Sentinels just happening to be the "villain-of-the-month". In terms of production, the editors have done a solid job of including all relevant material. For instance, only the final page of an otherwise-unrelated Spider-man comic in which the Sentinels appear, rather than the entire preceding issue, is included in the trade, with the story resuming in the next issue. There are some text summaries included at the beginning of this volume to bring a new reader up to speed on storylines unrelated to Onslaught. There's plenty of action in Volume 2, just precious little of the actual Onslaught storyline. The quality of the artwork and writing varies (this was the 90s after all). There are Spidey issues drawn by the likes of Mark Bagley and John Romita Jr., but there's also truly cringeworthy dialogue from some criminal characters in the Punisher issue.

Pause the Action. Survey the World 18 juillet 2011

For the most part Volume 2 of Onslaught: the Complete Epic is just filler. The first issue or two deal with the X-Men on their mission to deal with Onslaught. Reveals that Xavier is like Batman: crazy prepared! He has files on how to kill each of the X-Men. That was neat to see. The issue where Wovlerine talks to this Aboriginal mutant was pretty awesome. Esp the fact that such a guy exists. But the rest of the book just seemed like filler that could have been safely ignored.

That's not to say it wasn't fun to read. While the X-Factor story was boring and just involved the Beast/dark Beast story, the Spider-Man story was a lot of fun. The only thing that sucked is that it was still during the time of the clones so we had Parker and Reilly both instead of just Parker. The Green Goblin issue was great because it was the same events of the Spider-Man book from Goblin's point of view.

The X-Man and X-Force issues may or may not become relevant in future books.

The only thing that bugged me is that no one in the Marvel universe outside of the X-Men (and their affiliates) seems to know about the sentinels. Now, this may just be because I've only seen the sentinels in the X-Men 1994 cartoon where everyone knows about them. They appear on the news. Senator Kelley campaigns on using them, etc. I understand that heroes that aren't mutants might ignore it because the sentinels are after mutants, but they should still know what they are. Perhaps someone can help me out in the comments and let me know if this is a valid criticism or not.

About time 30 juillet 2008

I'm glad that marvel has finally released this whole series in graphic novel form. It's about time that they did because it is such a pivitol time in the x-men history. It is one of the pieces that connects most of the more recent events in the marvel timeline. Highly recommended for any x-fan.
Very dragged out stories 5 mai 2013

I think I remember why i stopped reading comics around this time period. I don't mind super-duper crossovers but the writing and the art need to be excellent at least 75% of the issues. This was very hard to get through especially with the art in the Hulk issue. Of course this is just my subjective opinion. I agree with another reviewer in that this volume just seemed like filler.

The second Impact 30 juillet 2008

This book has the attack of the sentinels sended by Onslaught, and you can see Spiderman and the X-factor trying to stop the madness, this book has good art but I like the first volume more, but now I can't wait to read the third book. If you are a fan of X-men's crossover the you must have this one.
