Titres : What does music mean; What is a melody; Musical atoms (intervalles); What is a mode; What is orchestration; What makes music symphonic; What is classical music; What is sonata form; What is a concerto; Humor in music; Folk music; Berlioz takes a trip; What is impressionism; A tribute to Sibelius; What is american music.

Just this April I discovered Leonard Bernstein's Young People Concerts. Mr. Bernstein and the New York Philharmonic did a series of television shows over a period of eleven years for CBS. These television shows were designed to teach his audience basic information that will increase their understanding about classical music and their listening enjoyment. He is successful. These are excellent videos. You will enjoy the lessons, the music, and the fun. They should be watched over and over.

Par D. Donovan, Editor/Sr. Reviewer - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: Broché
YOUNG PEOPLE'S CONCERTS by Bernstein was based on his televised lectures with the New York Philharmonic, written in response to the shows' popularity. This book gathers fifteen of the best of these fifty-three transcripts, providing lectures which capture the meaning and joy of music for young audiences. From identifying the basic elements which comprise classical music to showing how musicians slip humor into music and how folk music works in the concert hall, Bernstein's YOUNG PEOPLE'S CONCERTS is the next best thing to a college course - and the concerts come on DVD elsewhere if musical augmentation is required.
