Présentation de l'éditeur

Sometimes happily ever after is on the wrong side of death’s door.

iWerewolves in Love, Book 2

Thirteen years ago, Ally Kendall died defending her young cousin from his werewolf stepfather.

She hasn’t been the same since.

Ally returned from the hereafter with strange new powers, burdened with the secret of why and how she survived. She managed to scrape her life together and raise her cousin, but now he needs a pack to guide him into adulthood. That means pulling up stakes yet again and heading for Colorado to find the only werewolf qualified for the job. A werewolf, she discovers, who tempts her to give up control in a thousand sinful ways.

Cade MacDougall, Alpha of an unrecognized pack, has a tragic history, a sizable ranch, and a daughter who thinks she’s a cat. Time to find a mate? Don’t make him laugh. Until Ally shows up with a smokin’ hot, preternaturally strong body that smells like mine, and introduces him to a nephew who holds the key to unraveling mysteries about Cade’s family—and himself.

But Ally’s holding something back. As Cade’s enemies gather, the cowboy and his secretive new mate must come clean about their mysterious pasts…or else all hope of protecting their newly formed family—and their future—will be lost.

Warning: A sexy, smartass alpha hero, a heroine who could kick his ass if she wanted, heart-pounding action, and some serious werewolf cowboy lovin’.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Loved this shifter story 23 février 2011

I read quite a few shifter stories because they are my favorite type of paranormal. I had previously read Kinsey's novella Kiss and Kin, checked out her website, and saw that she was writing a full-length novel (although this is called "Book 2", none of the characters from the novella carry over so it is not at all necessary to read it first). She also was posting short "prequels" on her website that tied into her upcoming novel that were just hilarious. It seems that prior to this book's start, Cade, the alpha werewolf hero of the book, was having quite a time trying to hire a good nanny to take care of his young daughter that would be willing to live out in the boonies in the middle of a pack of werewolves. After reading one or two of those, I knew I was going to be buying this book as soon as it came out. I'm happy to say that this book exceeded my already high expectations.

I'm not good at plot recaps. Suffice it to say that the plot included werewolves, fae, the somewhat mysterious death of Cade's parents many years before, and another alpha who was out to get Cade. The plot was strong enough that it kept me going right through it and the pacing was good. There was always something going on, no slow spots. The characters were delightful to read. Cade was a good, strong, growly, bearded alpha with a heart of gold who loved his daughter and his whole pack dearly and Ally was someone who had a pretty awful time of it growing up, but still managed to turn into a strong, determined woman who was a perfect mate for him. The supporting characters were great also - all of the characterizations were vivid and strong. I especially liked that the conversations seemed real. The guys tended to talk a bit rough and curse a lot, but after all, they are single male werewolves living out on a ranch in the middle of Colorado. I also loved that Kinsey was able to do her world-building so unobtrusively that you got the gist of what was going on without having to read any info dumps until the very end of the book when lots of plot details were explained both to the reader and to the main characters after the action was over.

I strongly recommend this book to anyone who likes a good shifter or paranormal story and/or anyone looking for a good romance. I'll definitely be looking out for Kinsey's next book.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Loved it! 10 février 2011

I loved this book! I couldn't put it down and read it in one day! Kinsey Holley is a fabulous writer and I can't wait for the next book! To start even though this is listed as Book 2 in the Werewolves in Love series, you in no way need to have read the first one to get into this one.

The story revolves around Ally Kendall and Cade MacDougall. Ally's had a complicated life. She grew up poor, but motivated for a better life and although her family was broken she loved and mothered her cousin's little werewolf boy, Dylan. Of course that all changed when she was killed protecting Dylan from his drunk homicidal father. But then she was brought back to life (with super capabilities) and given a second chance to raise him. 13 years later, she brings Dylan to meet his paternal uncle Cade, who is the Alpha of his pack. Cade and Ally meet and sparks fly! Strong, stubborn Ally meets her match in pretentious, arrogant, do-what-I-say-or-else Cade. However, Cade has issues of his own, including his 4-year old daughter who thinks she is a cat, a fae villain who murdered his father years ago, and a rogue alpha wolf out to make Cade pay. Together they are in for a rocky, action packed ride that will keep you turning the page!

This book is fabulous! Kinsey Holley creates complex characters that are easy to love and cheer for. On her website you can find prequel stories about past nannies Cade had for his daughter, which are really funny and give you a great insight into his character. I can't wait to read her next book Ready to Run which will be out in August! But if you want more sexy werewolves by Kinsey Holley now, check out Kiss and Kin!

3.0 étoiles sur 5 Too much "I'll explain later" in the plot 25 juillet 2012

I was exceptionally annoyed by the over abundance of "I'll tell you later" or "I'll ask later", where later does not happen until it's too late, and it's caused a lot of trouble, even gotten people killed. There was also entirely too much of the "I'm too angry to find out the information I know is vital and may save my life, or the lives of those I love". It's simply not believable.

Once or twice in a book is fine, but several entire plot lines hinge on people not explaining things that they have no sufficient reason not to mention. Many of the characters are very strong personalities, yet somehow they are motivated by fear and embarrassment.

It was clearly a plot crutch that I hope the author will filter out of future books, or at least greatly reduce.

On the positive side I think the world was very interesting and enjoyable, as was the dialog.
