No direct link that I can see, Anne. But I don't know if/where it was if ever - I receive an emal when this thread is active and link directly from there.

I bookmarked it / added it to my favorites so I can find my way back here

I picked up 4 mysteries from the list and am thinking about the Oswald of Northumbria book

I already had the Folletts, Penmans, The Black Guard, and Snow White Must Die and this group of offerings seems rather UK centric

oooh Shirley, no spoilers please!! LOL. I am up to where they are at the swimming club 45% so no have not reached the CAKE yet, was guessing it would be something diabolique from the hints so far!! Can I ask you, have you still got the link to discussions at the top of your kindle home page on the amazon site on your computer?

En réponse à un message antérieur du 2 juil. 14 08:11:21 GMT+02:00
I wondered why the long silence from this thread ...?
Have you got to the CAKE, yet, Anne? I never liked chocolate cake anyway but I should think it would put cake lovers off for life :-)

Thanks for the link CB. Quite a few of interest in there this time, I agree the two Ken Folletts and Sharon Penmans. I have been finding it impossible to get on to this forum recently as I have lost the "discussions" tab at the top of kindle home page and searching for forum discussions has had no results other than links to books with those words in the titles!! I could only link onto here from the received email notification of your posting CB Judging by the lack of postings on here perhaps I am not the only one??? Any advice CB or do you get the link discussions heading as normal?
Back to books: I am reading Kathryn Stockett The Help at the moment and it is excellent (tried to do a link/insérer un lien and that does not work either!)

Thanks for the info on the Jules Poiret series, W. Sh, I'll give them a try!

Publié le 5 juin 14 20:45:04 GMT+02:00
If nothing grabs you from the current OMG list can I suggest a glance at these: the Jules Poiret series by Frank Howell Evans; all 5 books currently available for just 0.89. If private detective Jules Poiret and his sidekick Captain Haven sound a little like Agatha Christie rip-offs to you, think again. Evans's books were published first - in the early 1900's - and it was Christie who was accused of plagiarism. Apparently, Poirot and Poiret have more in common than their names. I've just started the first book, 'Jules Poiret and the Murder in Torquay' and it's very well written.

I didn't see too many that interested me this time, but then I just bought new books from Jo Nesbo and Maurice Druon

I lived there for 20 years before I moved to France - France wins hands down

the heat, humidity and traffic wear me down

Houston sounds more than bearable. Don't know much about it but I'm sure you will have a great time there.

unfortunately, I need to finish out my time in Houston before I go there - it'll be 3-4 years in my future

How exciting. It looks a great place to live.

When we retire it'll likely be in that part of the US. I'm being transferred back to the US (cries) in September so I'm starting to get ready for that move

Lacey's House This book has already been recommended here, which is why I bought it, and it is indeed excellent. There is only one (French) comment on Amazon's French site but many more excellent reviews of this prizewinning first novel on Amazon.com.

I remembered who people were, but I had seen the first season of the tv series before starting the books. Must have helped.

Thank you ladies! I think I'll just go for the basic paperwhite - I'm worried my kindle will conk out with no warning and I shall be left gnashing my teeth over those thrones!! (Am on to the second volume and having to restrict myself or the house will become a pigsty and family starve to death -I could live on tea and gingernuts indefinitely while engrossed in this amazing epic but the Others will get me!!!)
BTW do your kindles take ages over the "search in this book" function or is it a sign of impending doom ? I keep having to look up names as I can't remember who everyone is!

En réponse à un message antérieur du 17 mai 14 13:58:25 GMT+02:00
I did, but then I've been stuck twice in hotels where I couldn't connect to wifi due to the complexity of the hotel's wifi sign up and wanted to download a book

plus I do use the translation function
