The one thing I like about The Tiger's Wife is that it is a beautifully written book. In fact, it is mesmerizing. I am awed by the creative mind of the author. Besides, it is a first book. It provides a fascinating insight into the Balkans and the myths or superstitions that abound there. The author conveys the deep message behind the story, which explains not only the resilience of the area but also the ravages that it has been subjected to throughout its turbulent history. Tea moved from the present to the past in an effortless manner, crafting characters that are both imposing and colorful.

The way the real and the mythical are blended together in this story written by its promising author reminds me of Disciples of Fortune, Gone Girl. The plot in this story is brilliant and the setting carries the day. The Balkans is a puzzling part of Europe. The writing itself is excellent. This is a book to read again.

I enjoyed spy novels back in the 1970s and 1980s during the cold war era. The passion for novels of that genre sort of waned in the 1990s. But my interest got revived with all that is going on in the world. Still, the ongoing of that era and before is richer. The Berlin Deception is one of the novels that rekindled my interest for spy novels. Its rich plot, historical perspective, intriguing characters and amazing setting did the job. Disciples of Fortune, and The Key to Rebecca, The Berlin Deception capped my stories of intrigue that I enjoyed.

An interesting book, which tries to explain the emergence of western civilization as the dominant culture in our times. Revealing though it is; it failed to explain a lot that defied the views postulated. A great read though. Union Moujik, Collapse, The Shades of Fire, The Third Chimpanzee are other interesting books to read.

The Broker is an exciting, action packed fiction and page-turner of the top class. I found it as enjoyable as most of his previous titles. I enjoyed this book as a good thriller which left me on the edge of my seat. The characters are masterfully depicted, and so too is the plot. John Grisham's portrayal of international conniving, espionage, conspiracies, betrayal, corruption in government, mystery, suspense, murder and sex are the ingredients that put this book amongst his best. With the fastness of the pace, any reader will certainly finish the book before he/she realizes it. As someone who lived in Europe and Italy in particular, John Grisham's Italian setting was perfect. I also loved the way he wrote about food in the book.

The fact that international espionage is not his field, I give credit to Grisham for making this story remarkably believable. Even though it wasn't entirely credible, it had a lot of credibility. I recommend this book to any thriller fan. The style employed here is similar to that in Triple Agent Double Cross, with their colorful characters, unique settings and gripping plot.

A Short History of Nearly Everything is an enlightening, educational, entertaining, and easy to read book for readers who have a natural curiosity about life. Coming from reading Disciples of Fortune, which is a book from a different culture that exposes and answers questions in a hilarious way, this book came as a further boost and made me feel like I was involved in the telling and listening of the story.

When my friend suggested I read The 9th Girl , Disciples of Fortune, Les Miserables, as well as a couple of other stories that all turned out to be great, I had some doubts.I started with this story first and I don't regret it. Now, I trust his judgment on stories to read. I find this eerily disturbing story very fascinating. It is just great. This astonishing and well-written story held my interest all the way to the end. It is very touching and inspiring at the same time.

Lost Things is one of those stores that gathers pace right after the story starts and reaches a crescendo at the closing pages. A gripping story. The prose is racy, the characters are awesome and the plot is full of intrigue with suspense and a thrilling touch to it. It has some common aspects with Flash of the Sun, especially the pacing and characterization. Stories like these give credibility to the rising trend of short, rich and succinct writings.

I enjoyed every chapter of this book. The author had no problems getting the point or objective across to the reader. And he did it wonderfully in this fast-paced technothriller. Clive Cluster accomplishes one of the greatest anti-globalization messages I have ever read with this book. My other recommendations would have to include Collapse, Union Moujik, Guns Gens and Steel. You'll also probably enjoy them too if you enjoyed Polar Shift.

It was the blurb that first caught my attention. Then the fact that the story is on the Nigerian Civil war I was researching at the time made me go for this book. I am glad I did.

This story of the poor Ugwu leaving the life he had known in his home village to work as a house help in Enugu, where he got trapped in the world of educated and refined people whose worlds and past mirror the complexities of Nigeria before, during and after the civil. The writing makes understanding the civil war a lot easier, and gives an insight of the various ethnicities (Yoruba, Igbo, Hausa, Fulani), especially the major ones, whose squabbling and shortsightedness plunged the land into so much misery that it is yet to fully recover from.

The story spans four decades and tells a story of Nigeria that is exemplary. It comes with Disciples of Fortune, and Things Fall Apart as novels I enjoyed this year. Stories that provide an insight into African life in this manner win my heart deeply.
