Membran est un éditeur très irrégulier (cf ma rubrique sur les symphonies de Brahms par R Kempe)
Mais il a mis là la main sur les trésors de la Radio Suisse Italienne sortis un temps sous maque Ermitage
Tout est beau dans ce coffret dont les prises de son si elles trahissent leur âge sont tout à fait recommandable et en Stéréo

Un exemple : découvrez Lazar Berman dans les transcritions de Lieder de Schubert par Liszt
Vous trouverez à la fois un doigté exceptionnel mais en même temps une prise de son d'un réalisme stupéfiant. Bravo la RSI et merci à Membran de les remettre sur le marché.. surtout à ce prix

Rassurez vous , on retrouve bien l'Ozawa que nous connaissons (précis mais parfois un peu froid) et dans des enregistrements forts valables.
La trahison vient du fait que ce coffret sort sous pavillon Deutsche Grammophon alors que de nombreux enregistrements ici présents ont été faits chez Philips.
Est-ce si grave ? En fait oui car l'on s'attend aux premières versions des symphonies de Brahms Mahler ou du Schéhérazade avec Boston, et qu'on a des remakes (forts bien enregistrés d'ailleurs) avec son orchestre japonais de Saito Kinen.

Il eut été plus honnête d'utiliser le pavillon Decca (chez qui Ozawa n'a à ma connaissance pas enregistré) puisque c'est le pavillon fédérateur de la galaxie Universal Music

Quand on se souvient que ces enregistrements faits avec la philharmonie de Munich (l'orchestre de Celibidache) datent de 1975-76 et qu'on le voit masterisés en 24/96, on s'attend à une belle opulence sonore.
Las. Il s'agit bel et bien d'une arnaque
Ces messieurs les éditeurs sont partis (en ce qui concerne les symphonies de Brahms) de ...33 tours
D'où un son aigu sans ampleur, et des pétillements de bruits de surface
Kempe mérite mieux

Nous retrouvons ici des versions (qui n'ont jamais vraiment disparues du catalogue) que je tiens pour des références absolues, tout particulièrement le concerto pour violon avec l'ORTF et André Cluytens. Peu d'autres ont su trouver ce ton noble et cette apparente évidence des équilibres.

C'est au niveau du son que j'attendais cette réédition avec circonspection. J'avais effectivement été critique avec l'édition dans la même collection des concertos de Chostakovitch; je serai ici beaucoup plus positif.

L'esthétique est changée par rapport à la réédition 2008 des enregistrements EMI du violoniste. Il y a sans doute un peu moins de basse, je perçois un peu plus de réverbération mais Praga nous assure ne pas en avoir ajouté. Pour moi le progrès se situe au niveau de certaines agressivités et acidités qui se manifestent lors des tuttis. Ici cela passe avec plus de souplesse.
Je ne dirai certes pas que le son est transfiguré, mais le confort auditif en est amélioré.

Donc à acheter sans réserve

mais il y a toujours cette énergie qui volatilise les cadres et fait (re) découvrir des œuvres sous estimées: Ici la sonate pour violon de Respighi et la 2ieme pour violoncelle de Beethoven

Si je voulais faire du mauvais esprit, je dirai que Forman avait raison d'imaginer Salieri jaloux de Mozart. Son Requiem est malheureusement vaguement ennuyeux,(non pas à mourir ;-))
