This fine edition of Man Hunt has forced French subtitles when played back in English, so if that upsets you, it's best to wait for an alternate edition.

3.0 étoiles sur 5 The original English soundtrack mastering is faulty..., 30 décembre 2012

This French blu-ray offers up a preview of just how wonderful the original-language version will look when the English-friendly, BFI version hits the UK in March 2013. Sadly, the English track on this version has a mastering problem that begins approximately an hour and a half into the feature, when suddenly the dialogue channel shifts to the right channel for the remainder of the film. Interestingly, the forced French subtitles were defeatable on my all-region player: If you press the subtitle key on your remote after selecting play, the <Francais 1> subtitles option will allow the English-language version to play without French subtitles. The subtitles are only forced on <Francais 2> subtitles. This operation works only on loading, so if you miss the opportunity, you need to open, close and restart the blu-ray.
The French-language version audio is mastered correctly, so those uninterested in the English options should be quite satisfied with this very nice presentation.

4.0 étoiles sur 5 A stunning blu-ray from Gaumont, all-region friendly, 14 août 2012

This period piece is a delight on the Gaumont blu-ray, and it's a stunning scan, looking beautifully filmlike. This is the kind of film that benefits immensely from a well-done, high-definition treatment. The film can be viewed with an English soundtrack, featuring Irons' own voice, that's a somewhat better option than the original French-language version, where he's dubbed. The choice is yours on this blu-ray, which also includes removeable French subtitles.
As for the film, Schlondorf deftly handles the daunting task of tackling Proust with a surprisingly International touch, and it's as good a romance about consuming jealousy as anything else out there. There's a clever use of time, and the denouement is sufficiently Proustian. Very effective.

This blu-ray contains a solid, high-definition presentation in DTS-HD 2-track matrixed stereo. The English language version contains removeable subtitles. The framing is academy widescreen at 16:9. Cronenberg preferred a 1:66 to 1 framing for the Criterion release, but the film was generally shown at 1:85 to 1 in most theaters. Fans of this brilliant film will not be disappointed with this excellent blu-ray version.

Here is John Huston's Western flop, THE UNFORGIVEN, ripe for rediscovery in a solid, high-definition presentation. It is region-B only, and the English audio does have removeable subtitles. The extra featurettes are exclusively French. The audio is DTS-HD 2-track monaural. US fans of the film will be pleased screening this version.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 MATINEE on Blu-ray! Plus MANT!, 20 juillet 2011

This charming homage to the pleasures of mid-20th-century movie houses is better now than when it was originally released in 1993. It's arguably Joe Dante's best film, and features John Goodman in his best role ever. Cathy Moriarty deserves mention for adding immeasurably to the pleasures on hand. MATINEE is that rare farce with perfectly-pitched melancholy in capturing the end of an era; and it's rich in nostalgia for a decade of exploitation filmmaking that kept a generation of kids in the theaters and drive-ins.
This Carlotta blu-ray presents a very accurate, filmlike presentation, with good color-timing and saturation. The original, matrixed, 4-track stereo soundtrack is not given a discrete 5.1 boost, but the separation and fidelity is excellent thanks to lossless, 2-track DTS mastering. The extras are a delight, including an easygoing chat with Dante on the project, and the great guilty pleasure of seeing MANT!, uncut and uninterrupted, in all it's high-definition, monochrome glory!
You will be hardpressed to find a more enjoyable film for general audiences than this one, and the Blu-ray presentation is superb! The disc is region-B locked, but the extras are English-friendly.

4.0 étoiles sur 5 The best available home-video version of Scott's Columbus film., 13 avril 2011
Achat vérifié(De quoi s'agit-il ?)
Ce commentaire fait référence à cette édition : 1492, Christophe Colomb [Blu-ray] (Blu-ray)
This is a competent Ridley Scott epic about Columbus, and this French blu-ray is English friendly, although accessable only to players capable of region B delivery. A lossless, matrixed surround soundtrack is presented in DTS. The French subtitles are optional and can be removed, unlike many TFI titles that have forced subtitles when choosing the English language track. The 1080 interlaced or 720 progressive image is clean and filmlike; comparable to the best high-definition television presentations.
This should impress any fan looking to experience a theatrical-quality version of the film.

4.0 étoiles sur 5 An excellent, all-region Blu-ray with an English audio track, 13 avril 2011

An epic animal picture, precisely delivered in high-definition with Sarde's lilting score delivered in lossless DTS, 6-track sound. There is an English audio option. Some of the overt cuteness can be cloying, but the vastness of the production design and the amazing nature shots make this a magnificent outdoor experience. It lacks the power of QUEST FOR FIRE, but it is a worthy successor for Annaud.

This all-region blu-ray version of SUBWAY surpasses the Optimum version available in the UK, mainly because it contains the original dolby stereo soundtrack - along with English subtitles. The Optimum gives you an unacceptable mono soundtrack, which has good fidelity, but completely underminds the film's essential musical elements. Both high-definition versions, French or UK, far surpass any of the dvd editions available worldwide. For fans of this overtly cult Besson exercise in style, you can't do any better than this blu-ray edition.

This is Brian De Palma's mean-spirited look at the record business - and things haven't changed a bit. It's filled with great music bits, and it's a pop-culture satire that succeeds like few others - only ROCKY HORROR manages to eclipse it - although Gerrit Graham's "Beef" has moments of "Frankenfurther" genius, and Paul Williams' wicked Phil-Spector, devil dwarf is sensational! The concept is obvious, but it's played with such original flair that it transcends the obvious joke. Paul Williams' score plays back better now than it did back in '74 - it's superlative work.
The "glammy" production design, and garishly-right cinematography, are perfectly presented on this region A/B/C blu-ray. It looks like it did when it played in theaters. It's surprisingly filmlike projected in a home theater, and the DTS stereo of the English version is appropriately crisp and deep. Incidentally, the French subtitles on the English version are optional if you shut them off during playback via remote control.
This is a superb blu-ray of a genuine cult classic - and it's great to have this English-friendly, high-definition edition from Opening.
