I admit that I like Cornwell's books. They may be fiction, but they have the feeling of authenticity (historical facts) and you can imagine what was happening.
In this book, Sharpe is the person that links various events during the Battle of Waterloo. And Cornwell writes in such a captivating manner that you keep reading. And when the book is finished, I downloading history books on Napoleon, the Battle ...
The Kindle version has 1 disadvantage : it is not that easy to get back to maps etc. but you can look up words (and that is a really practical feature).

Waterloo is a very good book. Recommended.

I bought this book despite of the real identity of the author. If she took the trouble of using an alias, I figured she wanted to proof that she is a good writer.
Most detectives and policenovels take a while to get going, so I expected the first 30 pages or so to be rather boring, as the story picks up some speed.
Unfortunately, the book NEVER gets to any speed and the story is boring. The use of "f***" is irritating, the use of rap-language unneeded and irritating.
When I got to 80% ... I flipped to the last 5 pages to know the ending of the story... something I haven't done for years.
It feels that this book has been written using a well-defined storyboard and too mechanically.
The result is plain, boring and irritating at times.
Pity.

Industrial quality : reads well, plot is good ... but it lacks spark.

Do read, it is worth the money if you buy the paperback

Being a great fan of Colin Dexter (Morse), I am rather difficult to please with detective novels.

This one however is extremely well-written, without the annoying elements that are typical for mass-production.
The "romantic" part is predictable, but not annoying.

The plot is excellent and the whole book makes pleasant reading.

Camilla has made it to my "favourites"
