The Data Warehouse Toolkit: Practical Techniques for Building Dimensional Data Warehouses
The Data Warehouse Toolkit: Practical Techniques for Building Dimensional Data Warehouses
par Ralph Kimball
Edition : Broché

5.0 étoiles sur 5 A very good introduction into dimensional modeling,, 26 juillet 2001
If you are going to do data warehousing, especialy if you are a data modeler or a data warehouse architect, this book is for you. The author is a well known data warehouse practitioner, so he has a lot to say about those modeling techniques. But, please, pay attention to the fact that a coin has to sides and with data warehousing it is so. Make sure you get one of those books by Bill Inmon or one of his supporters to understand completely what data warehousing is about. As far as this book is concerned, it is very concise, full of terms and design tips. You will enjoy reading it and putting the knowledge into practice. I put it on my Data Warehouse Architect's list as a must have.

Mark's offers the widest array of subjects of any of the handbooks I've used. It has consistently provided concise and readable summaries on any engineering topic. It is the most frequently used book on my shelf.

This book, and the accompanying CD, is a great reference for CIOs, CTOs, Engineers and Managers. I keep the CD in my laptop at all times and refer to it often to get clarity on networking topics, refresh my knowledge of a networking design issue, or just learn new things about telecommunications. Sheldon has laid out the book so you can quickly hit a topic you're interested in (or must understand for that big meeting coming up in an hour!) and review it comprehensively, or use the book as a tool to clarify a networking issue and all pertinent, associated technologies. The chapters are well-written, instructional without being boring. I haven't figured out a way to start a chapter and read it end-to-end because I keep hitting topics that I want to refer to in other parts of the book to learn more - but that's a good thing. Also, the website Sheldon is working on will help keep topics fresh as changes and advances occur.
Fantastic book. If you're in the IT field and want a good, comprehensive book to help you understand end-to-end network architecture, I can't imagine a better book to buy.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Best Yoga Book Ever!,, 26 juillet 2001

This book is of immeasurable value to both novices and masters of yoga. B.K.S. Iyengar is a master with great heart and caring for his students, which shows in his text and also the photos of him helping students with their postures.
This book is extremely accessible and is full of good, clear color photos of the postures, many of which are shown in a series of photos representing views from all angles.
In addition, the book is broken into clearly tabbed sections for easy reference. Sections include recommended series of postures for specific ailments and conditions, and conclude with a thoroughly illustrated 20-week yoga course.
Iyengar yoga often uses props to help students get deeper into postures, and there is a very good illustrated section here on how to use these simple props - something that's been missing from any other yoga book I've ever seen.
The book also contains a list of the postures by their Sanskrit names and their English names in translation and some basic anatomical information as well.
By far this is the best and most useful book on yoga I have ever seen, and I've seen more than a few.
This is Mr. Iyengar's first book in many years and well worth the wait.

The Prayer of Jabez: Breaking Through to the Blessed Life
The Prayer of Jabez: Breaking Through to the Blessed Life

5.0 étoiles sur 5 A quick and inspirational read...not selfish at all!,, 26 juillet 2001

I wholeheartedly loved "The Prayer of Jabez", and the impact it has had on so many lives. I disagree with the negative reviews on this site, claiming that we are supposed to ask God to bless us with what WE want - saying that this book is a self serving tool to justify our selfish desires. That is NOT what this book is saying. In reading the Bible, it is a basic fact that God loves EVERY SINGLE ONE OF US. He wants what is best for us and can do ANYTHING he wishes, but He will not continually dole out blessings to those who ignore the true purpose of them -- TO USE THEM IN ACTING OUT GOD'S WILL IN YOUR LIFE. God wants each of us to do His work and follow His path for our lives. When we make a commitment to do this, we need all the help we can get, which God is more than happy to provide. God also desires a personal, intimate relationship with each one of us. It is true that he knows our every thought and desire, but the act of ASKING Him for them pleases Him greatly. I loved this book and plan on buying many copies to distribute to family and friends. It only takes a little while to read, but the benefits are long lasting!!

I don't really know what to say about this book. For me, it has truly been a revelation and a wonder to read. I have never found anything so beautifully written, and so clear and simple in its presentation. Add to that its joy, fun, humor, and lightheartedness and you have something pretty good on your hands. I will be reading this book for the rest of my life...especially when life deals out more than I feel capable of dealing with. At times like these I find nuggets of Truth which help to ease my mind...bringing peace and acceptance to the situation at hand. "Know that what you do in the time of your greatest trial can be your greatest triumph." Yes...God is with us through it all...we need only remember that.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Insight on "How he does it", 26 juillet 2001

I wanted to find out more about how John Edwards and how he does what he does. Many times we automatically discount the authenticity of mediums due to a lack of understanding. Not everyone can do what they have the ability to do which invites skepticism in our minds as to "this can't be real". This book gave me an insight on how John as a medium receives and translate images, sounds, smell etc. John's own skepticism is made very clear in this bookas as well. I now have a better understanding of what happens during his readings, why and how. If your interested in John Edwards, a "Crossing Over" fan, a skeptic or are just curious, this is a good choice! It should help bring a better understanding to the process.

This is a must read for every Christian! I was introduced to this book at a men's prayer breakfast. A man stood up and testified to the power of this prayer. He highly recommended this book. I bought a copy and read it over a couple of days during carpool time. It challenges the reader to pray Jabez' prayer asking for God to bless me + expand my territory + keep me from evil that I might not cause pain. What a terrific prayer! Bruce illustrates the parts of the prayer with explanations and illustrations of how it's worked in his life. I now pray this every day, resting in the knowledge that God will answer this prayer with exciting opportunities and blessings.

This was such a good book!! I have to admit, though, I watched some of the movie before I read the book, which I hate to do. I found out, though, that the movie is surprisingly accurate. I mean, while I was reading the book, pictures and parts of the movie would pop up in my head, and it was exactly like what I was reading. The book was well written, and it was pretty graphic, but I would really recommend that everyone watch the movie, because it is soo accurate, and it really helps to add to the seriousness of the disease, and the emotions the characters felt. So read the book first, and get pictures in your head of how you imagine it all happening, and then watch the movie. It's such a powerful story, and I just can't get over how accurate ever single detail and line is in the movie. The part about the wife was a little different in the movie, but everything else is just like the book. I would love to meet someone like Morrie when I go to college!!
