Plain awesome, 22 février 2013
Written by Matthew Lewis during a short period of ten short weeks when he was just nineteen, "The Monk" proved to be a controversial novel at the time that it was written. Faith, deception, loyalty, sorcery, murder, Satanism, incest, rape, ghosts, and the inquisition gave the novel the popularity it has retained until today. Even though its plot made the novel controversial when it was published in 1796 to the point where it as held to be blasphemous and resulted to censorship, Lewis nevertheless gained in popularity. The story is basically about Ambrosio, who as an enfant was found at the doors of the abbey, stirring talks that he was a divine-sent child. He grew up to become an ostensibly pious and deeply revered Abbot of the Capuchin monastery in Madrid, a fit in holiness that aroused the resentment of the devil who decides to plot his fall. The devil plotted the fall through the working of a young female who disguised and became a novice under the tutelage of Ambrioso, the immaculate monk. Ambrioso's fall is plotted through out the later stages of the novel as his fight with the deep passions of his body, the machinations of the devil and his attempts at redemption. Anti-Catholic in nature, this Gothic classic is perhaps the best in its genre. I am certain the author enjoyed every moment while he was writing it because the story flowed all the way through to the end. Like Disciples of Fortune, The Monk is a recommended classic.

A great touch of motherhood, 25 mai 2012
True motherhood comes with a curious sense of maturity, sacrifice and love for the innocent infant that has been ingrained in a woman from man's primitive days. I found this book to be very exciting from the very first page to the very last and sighed when I finished the story. After reading it, I got a better understanding of Motherhood. I It comes with other books that I enjoyed in the way motherhood is treated such as The Usurper and Other Stories. The day to day huddles of domesticity are beautifully told here.

A gripping story, 12 mai 2012
This page-turner captivated me and for the right reasons. It is well written and fulfills its essential functions. Well-researched and display a wide array of facets interwoven in a credible manner that the story comes out true to life. The Messiah Matrix and Disciples of Fortune are for now at the front list of my historical novels for their insight, information and other things. All I can say is that this is a well written work with a gripping plot, awesome characterization, beautiful dialogue and absorbing setting.

A lovely story, 8 avril 2012
A Short History of Nearly Everything is an enlightening, educational, entertaining, and easy to read book for readers who have a natural curiosity about life. Coming from reading Disciples of Fortune, which is a book from a different culture that exposes and answers questions in a hilarious way, this book came as a further boost and made me feel like I was involved in the telling and listening of the story.

A romantic guide to love and life, 6 avril 2012
Set in Cameroon in the environment of Christianity belief and under the challenges of an outlook to life and sex that has left so many jaded, the story captures all that is good of life that is not blinded by sex or lust. Other Cameroonian titles with lessons to learn on having a good and honest relationship are The usurper and Other Stories, Your Madness Not Mine, Disciples of Fortune, Mission to kala, Triple Agent Double Cross,The old man and the medal.

The World Is Flat, 6 avril 2012
The World Is Flat: is an insightful book with a unique and interesting theory, which tries to explain a lot of the socio-economic, cultural and political trend in the world in a simple, anecdotal manner. Pleasurable to read and reminds me in some ways of Freakonomics, The Union Moujik, The Usurper and Other Stories. Most people will enjoy it too.

Very inspiring, 19 janvier 2012
Now, the stories of Sherlock Holmes is perhaps the greatest collection of exploits about a man that has ever been written. The good thing about this collection that is that it brings together a wide array of the stories---long and short. Answers to mysteries are brought to a conclusion to the reader in a cryptic manner that leaves the reader awed at the end. It is a style employed in Triple Agent Double Cross. The solutions are breath-taking and the descriptions and settings are very real to life. This is a great book.

Plain fabulous, 19 janvier 2012
The first thing about Live and Let Die is the very attractive start with terrific descriptions and well written lines. It drew me in just great. The writing is smooth or even poetic and comes with a wittiness and effective dialogue that is not common around. The plot reminds me of Flash of the Sun. Not only it is gripping, it comes with many twists and turns and is effective in retaining the reader's interest all the way to the end.
