Beautiful music beautifully played - as long as you like Scarlatti. For me a harpsichord always sounds like a parrot cage being stroked with a toasint fork; a paino doesn't!

The ten Martin Beck novels are the source of the Scandinavian School of Thriller writing. They are not only masterly detective stories but also fascinating social observation - rather the Swedish equivalent of Rankin who is far, far more than a detective story writer. Stories, social commentary and really well drawn characters. What more can one ask for from any novel? Anyone who has not discovered Beck and likes the genre has the prospect of a most fascinating oeuvre in prospect either on summer beaches or in front of winter fires.
Not to be missed (all ten of them).

Somehow one doesn't associate Schubert with religious music, but this record is sublime. Beautiful tunes, beautiful singing, a totally unexpected glimpse of Schubert's genius. I bought it because a local choir I sing with in la France Profonde is going to tackle it. A challenge, but one of those challenges that makes life worth while. Anyway, maybe not a 'must' disc, but a delight to have in the library.
