This is more than a book, this is simply a PhD thesis published under a book format. A tremendous amount of research went into the writing, and even if you don't read the introduction by the author where he explains his process and how long it took him, you can grasp the amount of work that went into it.

Aside from the research that is worth highlighting, this is a finely crafted book in terms of history and economy. I like to qualify this book to people I already recommended it to, as a very solid work on history, drawing on economy to unravell the historical timeline of WWII and Nazism. This is a strong blend between economy and history that gives a dimension that I have never seen before in any pure-history book and Nazis and WWII out there. However, it is important noting that the economy feature, despite being sometimes pushed beyond basics, is never incomprehensible by people who haven't studied economy before. (former economy & finance major student talking). I recommended it to my dad who never studied any economy and never even interested himself in basics of economy, yet he loved this book, because it brought additionnal data on this period of history that he never read about before (despite extensive WWII and Nazi readings).

The content is dense, and it's not something you read lighheadedly, at least I didn't. I personnally see this book as a very good candidate for a follow-up reading after a history-alone book outlining WWII. It provides depth into the economic mechanisms that developped the "Nazi Economy", and that contributed to the rise and fall of the 3rd Reich. The whole book is riddled with economy in the middle of historical events, and I repeat myself, but this is tremendously done and I would recommend it to anybody being interested in this period of History.

Unique in its emphasis on the economics of the Nazi regime. Must-read for anyone who wishes to understand the 1933 - 1945 period in Europe.
