Lack of depth, lack of insight
le 29 novembre 2015
The author devotes a good amount of his introduction to tell us how he would never write the article that led to this book unless he would be allowed to use the term "asshole". This is the point that, if extrapolated, best describes the character of this book.
Lots of anecdotes and shallow personal insights alongside tables listing criteria and questions people should ask themselves. What tops it all, in my opinion, is the ample use of terms like "jerk", "asshole" along with characterizations like "flaming" or "certified". The author builds an ad-hoc, useless, but most importantly, potentially harmful for people actually trying to resolve a situation, ontology to discuss such a serious and complicated subject as building a psychologically healthy work environment.
I give a second star for the first chapters that introduce the reader to some work in experimental psychology of the workplace that can assist you in coming up with your own understanding , as well as the "additional reading" section that may lead to some more serious works, as it must be already obvious that the book builds up to provide but the shallowest of insights.
Buy it only if you can find no other means to introduce yourself to the domain.
