I know, this record is considered by some critics as not groundbreaking or original enough. I don't care: for me this is the best album she made, although my favourite piece Softly, As In A Morning Sunrise is not on it. It is her first album, but you already clearly hear the wonderful Emily playing: her sense of time, perspicuous articulation and phrasing, the choice of chord voicings. Relaxed, soft and sweet (as in Look to the sky of Jobim), having fun and swinging in her own compositions. Listening to Joe Pass I feel respect. Listening to Emily too, but with her it also comes from the heart, or the belly. It is mind and body. This is one of the CD's I play again and again. Just love it.
