In his notes on the Mazurkas, Wasowski points out that there are 3 different dances, comprised of more than 50 distinct steps and combinations - leaping, gliding, stamping, running - which make up the mazurka family. In his playing, you can hear them all. It makes listening to them simply thrilling. Your feet want to dance; your brain is in a whirl; your heart yearns, throbs, stops, races in time to the rhythms...many of which you've probably never encountered in such a direct and powerful way. It's true...Chopin was a great revolutionary, and a great spokesman for Poland...and his voice reaches us again in this recording. Superb!
