When my students are at the end of ABCs of Violin Book 2, I introduce this Wohlfahrt etude book to them. Especially if a student has the time and wants to practice extra material and develop their technique further, and/or solidify what they have learned in the ABCs books.
First position is included in Book 1 of this combined Wohlfahrt Opus 45 sixty studies, however 3rd position is included in Book 2 of this combined edition. So, when students complete ABCs of Violin Book 3, which includes a basic introduction to 3rd position on all 4 strings, I then introduce the Book 2 of this Wohlfahrt book.
Wohlfahrt Book 2 begins with 3rd position, but towards the end finishes with Etudes No. 48 to 60 containing 2nd position as well. The studies get progressively more difficult with double stops at the end. No. 54 is chromatic, very useful in the development.
ABCs of Violin Book 4 introduces easy 2nd position on all 4 strings, but Whistler Volume II and this etude book are good books to follow ABCs of Violin Books 4 and 5. The 2nd position studies at the end of this Wohlfahrt are very challenging.
