Very old-fashioned technology – no user replaceable batteries. A rip-off
le 13 octobre 2014
This sensor works perfectly well – as you would expect it to.
However, Polar is one of the few people left who is pursuing this kind of technology. It is outdated. The future seems to be with Ant+
Even Bluetooth Smart is not really being seriously used by the big players.
Polar is a Finnish company and they remind me a bit of Nokia and I wonder if they are going to end up going the same way.
Second problem with this is that the batteries are not user replaceable. This means that when it comes to the end of its €4 battery life, you are obliged to go out and buy another €30-€40 sensor. Any decent company would have user replaceable batteries. In fact if you have a look on YouTube, you will quickly find instructions about how to cut this Polar sensor open and to install your own battery which you can buy very easily in any reasonable shop.
Polar's non-replaceable battery policy is also old-fashioned. It sounds a bit over controlling just like Apple and frankly the only reason for it must be because they want to make more money.
There are so many other products on the market now which have identical and much better functionality than Polar the I would recommend people avoiding polar.
You can get excellent Garmin products – and very cheaply on Amazon. It really is the sensible way to go now.
