I really enjoyed reading this book both for its extremely pragmatic and human approach to performance psychology. I would highly recommend this to anybody looking for a road-map on how to improve the level of personal performance and quality of life. My only criticism, as a teacher of Business Performance Psychology myself is that it is completely person-centred with little consideration of the team dynamics which are essential in management. Equally, along with Focus, Accountability and Optimism (positive outlook) I would like to have seen some emphasis placed on Observation, which again might have made the book slightly more 'team' focused. To be clear, the book rightly places a high emphasis on journaling but all the focus is on 'self' in terms of observation. These are perhaps subjective criticisms because much of my own work involves helping students to understand what motivates teams. That said, Mr Selk's book is a rare 'research based' diamond on the pseudo-scientific self-help landscape, and so if you are genuinely interested in learning how to improve your personal performance do not hesitate to pick up a copy today.
