Phryne Fisher is a modern girl of the Twenties. She has wealth but remembers poverty. She has nerve, skill, and daring. Here she has to travel back to her native Australia to try to find out why the daughter of an acquaintance seems to be suffering at the hands of her husband - possibly being poisoned. There are jewels, drugs, lithe Russian dancers, fast cars, and high society. There are also back-street abortionists and attempted murders; and Phryne acquires a new maid and a pair of taxi drivers to assist her in sleuthing as well as domestic matters.
Great fun, and I'll definitely read more.
