Some strong dialogues particularly between an acid mother and daughter.
Couples are portrayed with divorces or threatened ones and children have to learn to adapt along with the parents.
The main character, Laura, 42 lies in order to protect her life-long friend Charlotte,
but it backfires on her and she loses her for a while. She is also deceived by a much younger man who uses and abuses her.
It certainly gave me a few laughs and I thought the T-shirt with 'Not out, Still scoring'
A combination of serious material and light reading made this a novel of contrast.
The ending was strong and welcome as so many books just drift to a finish.
