I usually enjoy this move-to-France genre and seeing the 'Amazon No 1 Bestseller' label I thought this would be an enjoyable read. Not so: I found it very poorly written. There is no beginning, middle or satisfactory ending - rather a random selection of short chapers about nothing in particular except of course living in France. There's a confusing mixture of time-periods. I got the impression the writers just handed over a series of essays about their time in France and that the publisher has not bothered to edit them. At the end there is little sympathy for the characters - one big yawn.

I loved this book, read it in less than 2 working days ( comminting to Paris has it advantges some times!) For once, I can read about people who enjoyed their stay in our country, also la Creuse, is not the most livelly place in France, it still has the quality of live many are looking for... Having lived in UK for many years, and having experienced as well the good and bads, but mostly the goods of England, I do like it when English expats are not on the "France is beatifull, shame there's so much French around" I usually read!
