My husband and I took early retirement and moved from the UK to France 15 years ago. We bought a 200 year old cottage to restore and make into our new home. All the ups and downs of trying to get materials, professional help and sense out of the locals is all here in this story. So real, I enjoyed it immensely.
This book was so boring. Woman meets man, decides to give up everything and go with him to live in rural France. Rural turns out to be totally isolated, the house is a ruin, the neighbouring aunt wants rid of them. The house falls down, the woman thinks she is being poisoned. The couple fall out, then reunite, but the woman, now pregnant, doesn't want to return to France. What luck, he receives an offer for the house. Happy ever after.
I live in France and love it. I was looking forward to something far more intersting than this. The only redeeming point for me was that I understood the French spoken by the French characters. I made myself finish the book which is why I gave it two stars, not one.
