This is a very complete account of the do's and don'ts of exercise, why we need to get up from the couch and move and what are the latest findings on exercise in general. I am neither young nor an athlete but I did find the book informative and engrossing. Moreover, Gretchen Reynolds' style is informative without being boring and very often personal when she describes her own successes and failures in exercise. Her sense of humor is also present.

I would recommend this book to anyone interested in the subject of sports, athletics and exercise whether he or she actually practices a sport or not.

This is a wake up call, a choice between living life to the full or not. It is a fantastically researched book and quotes sources. I recommend it

An easy entertaining read which packs in the facts from recent research into exercise. If you currently do any exercise, this book is going to make you pat yourself on the back. If you don't do any exercise at all, you may be persuaded to change after reading this.

The last chapter was a real shock - whatever exercise you do, sitting around is really bad for you. Sitting around has real, demonstrable negative effects and they are not always mitigated by the exercise you do.

I wasn't surprised that a lot of the things I learned about exercising around 45 years ago are true, but that most modern ideas are myths. Still, I never underestimate the pleasure of reading something that confirms my beliefs!
