I was caught up in the story and couldn't wait to finish it! The period detail rang very true and the characters were, on the whole very believable. (Alice was the exception to that.) The somewhat controversial subject that runs through the book was sensitively handled, although I suspect that some people will object to it. I have the distinct impression that there will be a sequel as there were loose ends left untied. If that were to be the case, i would definitely buy it..

This book brought back memories of a time and a way of life that are now long gone. Nadine Dorries evokes to perfection the sights, and sounds of the city of Liverpool and the life of its inhabitants with all the hardships, the fun and, above all, the love, support and affection they shared.
The Four Streets is well written, with a good story line. The reader quickly becomes fond of the characters and is soon engrossed in their activities, turning pages quickly to find out what happens next.
I hope there will be a sequel one day.
