Hollywood never made anything better than this! I have watched this DVD 4 times already. Despite Ingrid Bergman's classic beauty and charm, the towering star of the film is Humphrey Bogart. Here he is in his favourite role as half villain, half hero. He acts the powerful American he-man; the one who can solve any problem, and save any lady in distress. He is the one who stands above the law, but on the highest moral grounds. One feels he is inspired by John Wayne (or the other way round). The film is full of dry humour. There are also excellent actors in secondary roles: Dooley Wilson the pianist singing "As time goes by", Louis Renaud the police chief, and Karl the accountant/waiter.
Warning: If you are sensitive to excessive consumption of sigarettes and alcohol, do not buy this DVD!
