Présentation de l'éditeur

Marriage is God's idea. He planned it. He designed it. And if you follow His blueprint, it will be more rewarding, more loving, more exciting than you ever imagined.

In 10 Commandments of Marriage, Dr. Ed Young shares the “thou shalts” and the “thou shalt nots” of successful relationships—straight from the pages of God's Word. Long-married couples will find love-building precepts that will revive a failing marriage and make a great relationship even better. Soon-to-be-marrieds will discover what marriage is all about and gain priceless insights into starting on solid ground.

In words that are profound, often humorous, but always biblical, Dr. Young draws from decades of counseling couples to provide 10 commandments for a lifelong marriage that sizzles. God wants your marriage to be nothing short of incredible. And it could begin with this amazing book.

"The 10 Commandments of Marriage not only tells you 'what' but, thankfully, also tells you 'how.' Ed Young has taken the principles of Scripture and has had the courage to test them on the linoleum glued to average life on planet earth." — Beth Moore (bestselling author and speaker)

I learnt a lot of new things from this book, but it also showed me a new of doing old things. It is definitely a keeper. I will be adding it to our book club list but I would also love to read it through again only this time with my husband.

My favorite chapter is chapter 7, not because it is well written but because that is one of my major issues that I am still learning to deal with. It hit home.

“A good marriage is the union between two good forgivers.” We all make mistakes. Yet sometimes those mistakes hurt the person we love the most — our spouse. Be generous and forgiving when your spouse makes a mistake and your spouse will be more quick to forgive your indiscretions.

Three words to describe the book “humorous , real, applicable”

An important book for all married couples committed to having a great marriage. It's amazing how it's the little things that tear a marriage down - but being aware and diligent in these things can make such a difference.

He discusses some hard things!

Ed Young has created the 10 Commandments of Marriage which are:

1. Thou shalt be selfless: expectations, immaturity, stubbornness, insensitivity covered here among others. He brings in scriptures to relate to these aspects also.

2. Thou shalt have no strings attached: discusses leaving parents and cleaving to each other - no longer attached to their purse, their advice, leaving problems of the past.

3. Thou shalt continually communicate: don't ever do the silent treatment on each other. We each need empathy, understanding and intimacy. Find out each others love language!

4. Thou shalt make conflict thy Ally: strengthen the friendship at the heart of the relationship. Keeping conflict constructive not destructive towards each other.

5. Thou shalt avoid the quick sand of materialism: He looks at greed, the value of giving away things. The example of Ananias and Sapphira and how they deceived themselves by holding back from God. We are stewards.

6. Thou shalt flee sexual temptation - online and otherwise: He lays out some ground rules to create safety around your home, marriage and relationship with God for men and women.

Then he continues onto the last four commandments with a wealth of great information in each of them also.
7. Thou shalt forgive thy mate - 490 times and more
8. Thou shalt romance the home
9. THou shalt begin again and again
10. Thou shalt build a winning team.

Each chapter ends with reflection questions which are helpful to review and put it into practice.

This book is a great resource and I would definitely recommend it for everyone!

Please note that I was sent a copy of this book for purposes of review, however, the opinions expressed are entirely my own.

Par Shane Lester - Publié sur Amazon.com

Overview
Ed Young serves as the Senior Pastor in one of American's largest churches, Second Baptist Church of Houston, TX. He is the author of numerous books, and featured speaker on "The Winning Walk", a world-wide radio broadcast ministry. He and his wife, Jo Beth, have three sons who faithfully serve in ministry.

The 10 Commandments of Marriage is a collection of ten Biblical principles that, Young maintains, can help to strengthen, enrich and deepen any marriage (17). The commandments are: Thou Shall Be Selfless, Thou Shalt Have No Strings Attached, Thou Shalt Continually Communicate, Thou Shall Make Conflict Thy Ally, Thou Shalt Avoid the Quicksand of Materialism, Thou Shalt Flee Sexual Temptation--Online and Otherwise, Thou Shalt Forgive Thy Mate--490 Times and More, Thou Shalt Romance the Home, Thou Shalt Begin Again and Again, and Thou Shall Build a Winning Team. While, admittedly, the principles are not uniquely confined to a marital context, the author contends they are "best revealed in the intimacy of marriage", and when consistently pursued, they will provide the fuel to help ensure your marriage is one that thrives (14-17).

Strengths & Weaknesses
The 10 Commandments of Marriage is a good, practical, read for any couple that desires to grow in their marriage. My wife and I read through the book together, and much of the content sparked some really good and edifying conversations. Each chapter concludes with a "Reflecting on Your Relationship" section to help aid the reader in specifically applying the content of the chapter. The questions could also serve to help start healthy discussions in a small-group setting.

The book is very much Christ-centered and grace-driven. From the very beginning Young makes it clear that the commandments can only be lived out by a heart that has been changed by Jesus (13). The emphasis of God's grace, and the need for believers to daily rely upon the strength of Christ to embrace each of the principles, is a theme carried throughout the book. With all the self-help books and marriage-enrichment resources available today, this call for husbands and wives to ultimately place their hope in Christ was a welcomed reminder for this reader. Marriages are the strongest when they are built upon the foundation of the One who created marriage, and He (more than anyone else) knows how men and women are to "fit together" to make this thing called "marriage" and "family" work. Rather than a theological discourse of the "what, how, and why" of marriage, The 10 Commandments of Marriage is more like a practical guide to help couples foster an environment where their marriage can be, by God's grace, healthy and fulfilling.

Although the author does not specifically mention it, the book does read more like a sermon series that was tweaked to fit the requirements of a book manuscript. The content is true, helpful, and Biblical, but much of it is dotted with illustrations (I counted as many as ten in a single chapter)! Illustrations do serve a valuable purpose, in both verbal and written communication, but too many examples and "stories" can, at times, make reading wearisome, and be a hindrance to the main thrust of the particular chapter. Again, the content of the book is helpful; it just seems parts were left underdeveloped for the sake of including illustrations that might connect with various readers. Illustrations should enhance content, not replace it. This is, perhaps, the only glaring weakness of the book.

HASH(0x975c07bc) étoiles sur 5 Great Advice and Wonderful Read 28 juin 2016
Par Alyssa Ross - Publié sur Amazon.com

The 10 Commandments of Marriage by Ed Young is very well written and full of great advice. I am recently married and ordered this book for a reference. I am so glad I did. I know this will be a book I look over quite often as a reminder to look to God rather than material things and other people. I want to have a Godly marriage and this book showed me how to do so.

This book was very well organized and easy to skip to the part you need more advice from or to review when you are struggling. Being broken down into easy to read sections really helped me to focus on each section individually. The stories helped to bring the messages home and they were tied nicely to scripture.

I would recommend this book to any Christian, whether in a serious relationship, married, or planning to become so in the future. It really reminds us all to look to Christ, always.
