HASH(0x8df67dec) étoiles sur 5 A good company to buy from 22 décembre 2012
Par xo1rider - Publié sur
After a few years of use, not sure but could have been as long as eight to ten years the function that slowly lowered the lid stopped working the lid would slam shut. The seat still worked like new.

On a whim I went to the company web site and left a comment about the problem hoping for some parts to fix the problem. A week or so later I got an email asking me for some details on the problem and the size and color of the seat.

Today UPS dropped off a new seat. The company did not tell me to expect a replacement but it was a very nice surprise. The nature of the installation made putting the new seat on a matter of twisting two cam locks, removing the old seat and putting the new one on. Probably took less than two minutes.

This is the kind of company I want to give my business to, I suggest you do the same.

HASH(0x8df6a210) étoiles sur 5 Actually, a lot to like about this seat. However... 1 juin 2011
Par Nathaniel Allen - Publié sur
** Updated 1/13 after 1½ years of use ** scroll to end has one flaw that causes me to suggest you seek out one of Bemis' other models.

But first, the good:

+ Installation is super easy. The hinges attach to the toilet with break-away nylon "bolts" that can't be overtightened (they snap off when the proper torque is reached). However, I installed them with just a plier and left the snap-off bolts in tact, for no particular reason. The part that should have snapped off protrudes perhaps an extra inch below the bowl (where it can't be seen), so no big deal.
+ The fit is tight. This hinge is very secure, preventing the seat from sliding around when in use.
+ The seat itself is adequately constructed to feel firm underneath, not flexy like some some super cheap toilet seats. The plastic molding isn't solid-fill like you'd expect with some "premium" toilet seats, but for the price, this one doesn't skimp where it counts.
+ The seat also has a limited number of nooks and crannies that can harbor grunge. The smooth plastic is certainly easy to clean.
+ The slow closing works! This was the number one reason I sought this seat out (picked from the shelf at my local big orange home improvement depot). We have a certain someone living with us who loves to slam closed the toilet seat -- probably why our wood seat finally cracked -- and this "whisper quiet" hinge has solved that problem once and for all.
+ The detachable hinges work as advertised, and allow easy and thorough cleaning in an area of the toilet that normally presents a challenge. Just two large button-sized nubs stick up at the attachment points. I question the longevity of this detaching mechanism (simple plastic parts; nothing complicated) but I'm treating them with care and so far, so good.

The bad? Only one thing:
- The cover is very cheap and thin plastic, and everybody in the house complains that when they sit down on it, it feels like it's going to fold in half and collapse into the toilet bowl.

Now obviously this is subjective to your typical use, and if you never sit on the closed toilet lid, this won't be a problem. But it's been enough of a household complaint (I, too, don't like this) that it causes me to recommend you search out one of Bemis' more expensive seats with a lid with slightly better / heavier-duty construction.

Every other aspect of this seat has checked out -- the seat, the whisper quiet closing, the detachable hinges -- that I'll be looking to spend a little more money on a slightly better-built Bemis with the same features for three toilets in our upcoming move.

Five stars for Bemis' features, but my preference is to avoid this particular model.

** Updated 1/28/13 **

After about 18 months of use, the slow close feature of the lid has stopped working. The seat portion still closes slowly, just as it has since day one, but the lid portion slams shut like any normal toilet lid. This is a very annoying flaw because it's so often unexpected. At least it's light plastic and doesn't close with a loud bang.

HASH(0x8e5f3b40) étoiles sur 5 Great seat with a one year life expectancy. 13 août 2012
Par Sandy H. - Publié sur
The seat looks good and works great. The soft-close feature and easy, twist off retaining snaps are wonderful ideas. The only problem I had is that, just after a year of use, the soft close feature on the seat portion stopped functioning. The top still does its soft close thing, but the seat now just slams closed. I called the company and they said it should last for 40 or 50,000 cycles. It didn't even come close. I have no options other than to buy a replacement since Bemis offers only a one year warranty. They suggested I take it up with the seller, but offered no support at all. Since the seat is attached with break-away bolts, I'll likely have to buy another Bemis so I don't have to drill out the old mounting bolts.

HASH(0x8df6a288) étoiles sur 5 Curious & Fascinating Hinge Correction 2 avril 2014
Par JJ - Publié sur
The company's representatives, while a bit evasive, were friendly enough when I called about how the top seat portion stopped closing slowly. They indicated that they were well aware of the soft slow hinge failure but suggested soaking the hinges in warm water "might" help. What was so curious and fascinating is that I was told that they fixed the hinge problem on new seats manufactured beginning in September, 2013. When I asked what model number I should look for in the store, the response to my question was that there was no way to tell a seat had the NEW HINGE because it was an INTERNAL CHANGE in the hinge. It was also explained when I asked that nothing on the box would indicate the NEW HINGE because, again, it was an "internal change" in the hinge.

So, here's how I, as a consumer, accesses the situation. Rather than the company taking responsibility for selling a hinge that had a known failure and provide some form of monetary or free replacement assistance with a hinge failure that occurs just beyond the 1 year warranty period, the company just decided to fix the known hinge failure problem without any form of consumer reimbursement or even letting consumers know how they could make a purchase that has the new hinge (it is noteworthy that they didn't deny that the original hinge was still on shelves in some stores where product turnover might be slower than say a big box store). Now, that's certainly not a formula for building trust in a company. Buyer beware. Sad.

HASH(0x8df6a618) étoiles sur 5 Design if flawed 19 janvier 2014
Par Charles C. - Publié sur
I installed 4 of these in my home when I remodeled 18 months ago. Already 2 of the seats have slow close hinge failures as described by others in their reviews. Clearly this is a design flaw but of course it happens after the 1 year warranty period so Bemis will not stand behind their product. I recommend not purchasing this product unless Bemis redesigns the hinges and offers a better warranty.
