5.0 étoiles sur 5 A cookbook for me! 27 janvier 2014

I've been gluten free due to an allergy for several years now and many friends have gotten me gluten free cookbooks with the absolute best intentions and warmth in their hearts. However, the other thing my doctor told me to get off of was sugar - and gluten free cookbooks are often loaded with (2/3 or more) recipes of how to replace cakes, cookies, and breads. Now that I have been eating less sugar and more veggies, good protein, and whole (gluten free) grains, I feel great. But I couldn't find any cookbook anywhere that gave me easy recipes that also worked for those times were you are on dinner solo. Most healthy cookbooks seemed to involve eighteen ingredients, six of them available at specialty stores not in my neighborhood, three of them used one teaspoon of things only available in pints with fast expiration dates, and the others were out of my price range.
Hello you sugar detox cookbook. I can look up easy main dishes/meats or make a simple soup or flip through tasty looking side dishes. If you cook at all most things will be in your kitchen and you'll stop by the store on the way home for just a fresh piece of fish or something. All recipes are fairly easy to prepare (and often quick - 1/2 hour), easy to halve for the single meals, clear substitutions for allergies, tips on where to find some less used ingredients (but then those ingredients are used several times, not just once in the cookbook - like you might have to buy coconut oil but then it is used in lots of the recipes). I wish I could describe more just how much I love this cookbook - but I've found that I can cook almost anything in it, rather than having just a few recipes I can use like most cookbooks. I like to just flip to a new side dish and try it out. You aren't stuck with things that are so odd you don't know what else to put with them. I'm actually not on the 21 day detox, I just like more healthy meals in my diet and it works great for that. It has things from Coconut Basil Halibut with Spinach to Squash Mash to Seasoned Sweet Potato Fries. Mmm mmm. Even tells you how to make your own coconut milk if you are trying to be more organic. It's actually easy. I like the kitchen again!

3.0 étoiles sur 5 Cool recipes, impossible schedule 3 mai 2014

I was really excited about all the recipes in the book after I received it, and even more thrilled, when my husband agreed to do the sugar detox with me.
My main problem is actually gluten, but I thought, cutting out the sugar for a while would not hurt either.
The first problem I had, however, was getting the recipes together.
You would find your recipe on say page 123, but then had to skip to 202 to find a sauce and an extra ingredient on page 42.
Just getting one dinner recipe would take forever.
We finally decided to follow the plan strictly for 10 days. Just could not figure out how to include more in our schedule. We are gone about every other weekend with no possibility to cook, so 10 days sounded like a great start.
I decided to do all the shopping for the 10 days in one go. Getting the shopping list together took forever, due to above mentioned back and forth skipping in the book.
The shopping then cost about twice as much as normal for us, mainly to the large quantity in meats and speciality stuff that had to be purchased. However, this I did not really mind as much, as I figured, it was all for our health.

We started cooking with great enthusiasm on day zero (preparing for day one). Two hours in the kitchen (cleaning excluded).
Day one and food tasted great. I don't really have a sweet tooth, so I wasn't missing anything.
The salmon on day two was absolutely amazing...
By day three, I was getting a little tired of cooking until late into the night...
Today, day four (and a weekend), I got up, we all had breakfast, and after last minute shopping, a quick run, and then bike ride with my daughter, and leftover lunch, I got cooking.
Preparing snack for tomorrow, chicken broth for dinner (which I should have done, the day previously already, as I realized too late), chicken for the soup, cracker for dinner, and the sunbutter brownies that I had promised my children, now four hours later, I am so exhausted, I really just want to sit down and cry.
And dinner is not even done, yet, neither is the kitchen completely cleaned.
That is another thing, usually I run one dishwasher a day, since starting the program, it is two to three.
I spend more time in the kitchen, than I spend with my children, and right now I am seriously thinking about quitting!

I was just so much looking forward to seeing the result that gluten free meals would have on my problems caused by an auto-immune illness. And the result a sugar free diet would have on my husband, since I think he consumes way too much of it, usually.

I still love the recipes, and will continue to cook them, but all in all, I am disappointed.
I am not sure if this could be done differently, but I don't see, how anyone with a job and a family can follow this program without totally exhausting themselves.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 The 21 Day Sugar Detox Cookbook-A MUST HAVE! 17 décembre 2013

First I want to disclose that I did receive an advance copy of this book to review but that the opinions expressed in this review are my own and I was NOT paid or encouraged to give only a positive review.

I am really excited about this book-as any good detoxer would be! There are well over 100 recipes to assist you on your journey to health and wellness. It was difficult to decide where to start. The Chicken Strips are already a family favorite. I'm a mother of two young children, so kid friendly recipes are a must. Not only do the wee ones love eating these strips, it's so easy to prepare they can take part in helping get their dinner on the table, which in our house is a must. My children will know how to cook real, whole foods when they leave my care to fend for themselves. There will be some nights when I just make enough chicken for the kids, and then my husband will come sniffing around looking for his plate as well. They are amazing! Everyone in my house loves them. Another great recipe I've tried is the Pollo Asado with Cilantro Cauli-Rice. A quick and easy meal that is full of flavor and completely satisfying. Lime and chicken are always a fantastic combination and with the Cilantro Cauli-Rice (with optional add ins) it was fantastic. There are so many great recipes in this book I can't wait to try out.

This cookbook is a work of art. You can really get a sense of the time and energy that has been poured into it. I really believe in and support this program. As more and more studies, books and information are released everyday proving just how damaging SUGAR is to our bodies and our minds, it reinforces just how important it is to teach people strategies and techniques for getting off America's "drug of choice". I believe in what Diane Sanfilippo is doing and have ZERO hesitation recommending her program and this cookbook. If it was easy, everybody would be doing it, but she has really worked hard putting together a guide that completely prepares someone to be successful. Walking away from sugar is EXTREMELY difficult. I struggle with it, and know many MANY people who do. This book is a must have tool to add to your sugar slaying arsenal. You CAN take control of your health and this is a fantastic first step for a beginner or way to add variety for a veteran.

Having followed the 21DSD & benefited greatly from the program, I can honestly say it is the most comprehensive, easy to follow guide to ditching sugar. The 21 DSD Cookbook is an awesome companion to the original book. For those very beginners, everything is here to get you started. It's so much more than a collection of recipes.

The lists of recommended products & brands as well as information on where to buy them is an awesome resource. You can choose a level, follow a meal plan & adjust it according to your activity level/lifestyle. My activity level is high, including crossfit workouts & running so I need more carbs. Each recipe has a symbol referring to modifications so I know exactly how to adjust it accordingly. Couldn't be easier to follow.

I am very impressed with the "Kitchen Basics" section of this book which provides many recipes for condiments, dressings, & spice blends. Utilizing this section of the book alone can provide so many possibilities for great meal. The southwestern, Indian, & Greek spice blends are my favorite to rub on chicken, pork, or fish.
I have truly enjoyed every recipe I have prepared from this cookbook. I was curious about the fennel & sage meatballs, having never tried bison before or considered using fennel in a tomato sauce. I was so surprised how well the flavors went together & impressed with a very creative combination of herbs & veggies. I also loved the chorizo burgers with the seasoned sweet potato fries on the side. I had the spice blends from the kitchen basics chapter already prepared which made it a very quick & simple meal to prepare. Trying to incorporate more carbs into my diet without over doing the sweet potato, I tried the roasted garlic parsnip mash. Really delicious as a side dish.

Even if you're not following the sugar detox program, this is just a terrific cookbook. If you are striving to cut out sugar, it is an invaluable resource! Excellent book!

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Nutritious & delicious recipes for optimal health 27 décembre 2013

First, I’m thrilled to have wonderful nutritious recipes that will please my family and second, I’m excited to have another book I can recommend to any of my nutritional therapy clients. I especially appreciate the allergen indicators and modifications for those that have autoimmune conditions, energy needs (athletes, pregnant/nursing moms), & for pescatarians (vegetarian + fish). Besides the easy recipes, I really like the guide to common food allergens, recommended products & brands, the guide to fats & oils, the quick-fix meal math, as well as the guide to additional sources of starchy carbohydrates vegetables.

This book is a companion to The 21-Day Sugar Detox Book, which I also love and recommend. The cookbook has mostly all new recipes with just a few of the basic ones repeated since some are needed for some of the new recipes. Even though you don’t need to be on The 21-Day Sugar Detox (I actually encourage eating this way as a lifestyle), the cookbook does have a great intro with Yes/No foods, 3 levels to chose from if you want to do the 21-Day Sugar Detox, and meal plans for each level. Diane even has a breakdown of the common ingredients used in the book (very helpful!).

What is really awesome is that you are not alone doing The 21-Day Sugar Detox. There are resources on Diane’s website: [...] and all over social media.

Since I had most of my clients get The 21-Day Sugar Detox book (and they love it), they are all excited about The 21-Day Sugar Detox Cookbook now too. I can’t wait to see their journals and their comments about the new recipes!
